There’s something so heartbreaking when you hear about a domestic violence incident within a home that results in such an unthinkable loss that you know it’s going to forever change a family. A 61-year-old mother in Utah was shot and killed by her husband in a suspected murder-suicide. To make things even worse, two adult children were in the home during the time of this violent attack and they were both shot, resulting in serious injuries. What makes this whole thing even sadder is that the victim was trying to reach out for help when gunfire rang out, but it was too late for her.
A beloved mother and friend, Kaylene Allred was shot and killed by her husband in a murder-suicide.
Just after 10:30 p.m. March 30, 2026, Kaylene Allred was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher when shots rang out inside her home in Kearns, Utah, Sgt. Aymee Race, a public information officer with the Unified Police Department, told People.
Race told the magazine that Allred had called 911 just before 10:30 that night to report a domestic dispute that had occurred between her husband and his adult stepson. Race revealed that there were “threats of a weapon” and alcohol and drugs were involved.
Sadly, while Allred was speaking on the phone, the gunfire started and she told the dispatcher that people inside her home had been shot, per People. When additional shots could be heard through the phone, Allred stopped responding. At that moment, the dispatcher could hear screaming.
How absolutely chilling.
When authorities arrived at the home, even though there were two survivors, what they discovered was bleak.

According to Fox 13 Salt Lake City, Kaylene Allred was shot and killed by her husband, Floyd Allred, who later turned the gun on himself.
When authorities arrived, Kaylene’s son, Christian, ran out of the house, telling officers that he and his sister, Brittany, and their mother, had been shot, per People. Sgt. Race told People that each of Kaylene’s children suffered from multiple gunshot wounds.
Floyd Allred was 64, KSL.com noted.
The siblings were taken to a local hospital where they were initially listed in serious conditions. As of April 7, they were both listed in stable condition, per the news outlet.
Kaylene Allred will be remembered as a ‘beautiful soul.’
Kaylene’s friends and coworkers are remembering her fondly.
Tanya Metzger, a friend and colleague of five years, shared with KSL.com, “Kaylene was great. She was the mama of the crowd, she was a beautiful soul. She was just an amazing person, she truly was.”
According to friends, Kaylene worked at a Sapp Bros. travel stop for 25 years and was their “Coffee Bar Queen” who customers loved. She was the sole provider in her family and adored her three kids, per the news outlet.
“She deserved so much better. She took care of those kids — she’d do anything for her children,” a coworker of Kaylene’s, Angela Simister, told KSL.com.
A GoFundMe account has been started to help support Kaylene’s children, Brittany and Christian, who were shot during this senseless act of domestic violence. Our thoughts go out to his family during this incredibly difficult time.
