The most magical place on earth became the scene of an apparent suicide on October 14, 2025. Summer Equitz, 31, reportedly jumped to her death from a top floor of the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The news came just hours after the family claimed Equitz disappeared from her home in Naperville, Illinois. They feared the worst, and tragically, their nightmare came true.
The New York Post reported Equitz’s family posted about the missing woman in a now-deleted Reddit thread. They claimed Equitz, who loved Disney, had randomly booked a flight to Orlando and left Naperville without telling anyone. Family urged anyone who saw her or heard from her to call the police.
According to the New York Post, following Equitz’s death, rumors swirled that a monorail train hit her. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department quickly confirmed that wasn’t the case. The department did not disclose where deputies found the woman’s body or any possible motive.

The news quickly spread to Reddit in a Disney subreddit.
“It’s being reported that a death occurred at the Contemporary this evening,” the original poster shared. “Large police presence, EMS on scene. Monorail is not running through the Contemporary concourse.”
“It is incredibly sad,” another person commented. “Rest in peace, Summer. To anyone who is wondering why she went there to do it … you’d be surprised how many people go back to places where they made some of their happiest memories when they’re ready to check out.”
One person who was trying to get back to the hotel shared their experience: “We left Epcot around 9 to head back to the Contemporary and when we tried to switch to the second monorail at the transportation center, they directed us to a bus. I’m not super familiar with Disney transportation & thought we did two monorails so I asked a CM there and he told me due to an incident the monorail would not be operating. Could tell from the sadness in his tone that it wasn’t good or a normal delay which lead me to this thread.”
A former cast member also claimed that Disney trains staff to not discuss serious matters like guest suicide.
“I was there when someone took a dive a few years ago,” they wrote. “Hubby and I both worked at Chef Mickeys, and they had the windows covered up and everyone wanted to know why. We were told to tell the guests that they were cleaning outside.”
This is nothing less than tragic. Whatever pain this poor woman experienced, it must have consumed her. We can’t imagine how desperate she felt, and hope her family will find peace and closure.
