Dad Takes Breathtaking Video of His Premature Son’s 107 Days in the NICU

Bringing a child into this world 15 weeks early can be terrifying. What will happen to this fragile little person? Thanks to one dad with a video camera, one little boy's journey from 1.5-pound infant born 15 weeks early in a neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU) to smiley, happy, and HEALTHY 1-year-old is showing the world the incredible journey through a preemie's first year of life.

Benjamin Scot is a photographer for Abercrombie & Fitch and a filmmaker, so what better way to capture son Miles' fight for life than in video form? Beginning when wife Lyndsey was finally able to hold their little guy four whole days after birth, the video of Miles' first year is a tribute to her and to the doctors and nurses at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. And, well, it's pretty much the most life-affirming thing I've seen in weeks.

So grab your tissues, and let's roll the videotape:

I've watched this video at least three times this morning, and I cry each time. Thank goodness he threw in that baby puke scene for a little comic relief, or I might have to call in from work hysterical, amirite?

Did you know one in eight babies in the United States is born premature? Scary statistic right there, but if you think about it, a pretty incredible one too. Technology has come so far that there is hope for more and more premature babies to not just survive, but thrive!
