What wouldn't you do if you had a crying baby on your hands? Most of us would try pretty much anything — rocking, burping, and of course feeding them if they won't calm down. But when it comes to soothing your own child, some people are certain that there's a line they'd never cross — no matter how inconsolable their little ones are. Which is why when a new dad confessed to a "method" he uses during times of desperation, the Internet is divided. People can't seem to let go of the fact that he allows his newborn daughter to "suckle at his nipples" when she's fussy, and many online have strong opinions.
In a post online, the dad revealed that he's tried something unusual to get his baby to go to sleep when mom isn't there.

In an old post that's going viral again on Reddit, the dad shared that sometimes when his baby can't be soothed at night, he'll try using his nipples to comfort her. "Sometimes when my baby is crying in the night and it's my turn to quiet and soothe her, in desperation I'll try to get her to suckle at my nipples," he wrote.
He admitted that his daughter didn't always go for his hairy nips, but other times he did manage to get her to latch. "I find myself experiencing a confusing mixture of joy at the connection between father and daughter, and horror at what I've become," he wrote.
So what's the deal, he wondered if other parents think this is weird? And is there anything wrong with it? "Do other dads do this? Any tips for getting her to latch on if she doesn't want a pacifier?" he added. "BTW, I don't think I want to lactate — that's just too weird for me."
Online, some people are baffled by this dad's actions.
Although this post was originally posted in 2015, it's still getting strong feelings online.
"I think you're pretty weird," one person wrote in the comments.
"My [Significant Other] has tried to do this but I just yell at him and tell him not to," wrote another mom. "I just think it's weird to do since the baby isn't getting milk from the father… Plus hairy nipples can't be fun to suck on."
"Nope… sorry. It does seem weird to me …" another person chimed in.
But other people were not so quick to judge. It might not be their thing, but whatever gets baby to sleep!
"I don't think it's very common, but really, whatever works, right? If it soothes her and you don't mind, I'm not going to judge," one person wrote.
And another person shared that he's not the only dad to give it a go. "My husband was curious about it and let our 2-week-old latch onto his nipple, and immediately yelped in pain hahaha. I don't think its that weird, kind of cute!" they wrote.
A third person made a less hairy recommendation. "Stick the tip of your pinky in the kids mouth," the redditor commented. "It should be a size equal to mom lactating nipple. By the time the kid realizes it isn't mom, they're calm."
In the end, letting baby suck on dad's nipple probably won't hurt it, and both parents should be on the same page, but it certainly will make for some entertaining stories to tell your kids in the future…
