We Were So Focused on Our Baby’s First Steps We Nearly Missed Our Knife-Toting Nephew

Babies reach a lot of milestones within the first year of life. They learn to sit up, to crawl. They take their first bite — or slurp — of real food. Many children also will take their first steps within that first year. It all happens so fast, and your job as a doting parents it to try and catch them all, preferably on camera.

It’s not easy. Children are quick and unpredictable. One family had a reminder about this inevitable fact when a potential milestone moment turned into something dangerous.

Courtney Gaylord went viral after sharing a family video.

Recently, TikToker Courtney Gaylord shared a video of a family gathering. “We live five hours away from family, so whenever we all get together, it’s always a big celebration,” Gaylord told Newsweek.

Brady was trying to lick the icing off a really big knife.

While all eyes are on Elliett, Gaylord’s 3-year-old nephew Brady walks into the frame wielding a huge knife. “He was trying to get the knife so that he could lick off some icing from the birthday cake,” Gaylord said, admitting: “We did not notice.”

Talk about a photobomb. The video ends abruptly, but Gaylord told Newsweek that there were no injuries sustained.

The video is two years old.

Some things have changed and some have remained the same. Elliett knows how to walk now. The family still lives five hours apart from one another, but they remain close. And they still laugh at this video.

“We shared it because we still laugh about it to this day and the fact that we got it on camera point, so I thought other people might get the chuckle out of it too,” she said. She was right.

The internet loved it as well.

The video has been viewed more than 400,000 times. Complete strangers found it funny as well. “He said alright look what I can do!” one person wrote.

Someone else could relate to Brady, writing, “Not gonna lie, if that were buttercream…I’d do the SAME d— thing! 🤣🤣🤣😭😭.”

Other people shared stories of their children doing dangerous things as well. “Never let them know your next move kid!” one commenter wrote. “We have 2 boys that keep us SO busy… I called their toddler stage suicide watch lol add a baby in the mix my goodness I questioned our sanity for a while.”
