9-Year-Old Boy Sews His Dad a Brand-New Shirt and Immediately Wins Over TikTok

Fair warning: By the end of this article, you will totally fall in love with a little boy named Sam Gouveia, a 9-year-old from Massachusetts whose kindness and creativity are currently winning over TikTok in a big way.

A video of Sam shows him surprising his dad Aaron with a gift he made by hand. But it isn't just any gift — it's a dress shirt he sewed himself, complete with buttons, a trendy pattern, and a '70s-inspired lapel.

Since sharing the video, it's received more than 13.2 million views on TikTok

Thousands of people have also taken the time to respond in the comments, where they've sent Sam nothing but love and encouragement.

"HE MADE THE BUTTONHOLES," one person wrote. "Dad, do you know how hard that is? You betta recognize."

"I hope he keeps sewing, he’s very talented," added someone else.

"I have a degree in fashion design," one person shared. "That there is raw, natural talent. That kid is going places if he pursues sewing!"

"THE WAY HE WAS STANDING THERE SMILING. I cannot. He is precious," said another viewer.

Others commented on how rare it is for kids to be exposed to sewing in the first place

"Sewing class should have never been taken away," one person lamented. "Most seamstresses are darn near 70 years old."

Most seamstresses are also female, underscoring just how rare it is for men — let alone young boys — to be encouraged to pursue an interest in the skill from a young age.

But luckily, Sam seems to be getting all of the encouragement he needs.

Over the past few days, Sam has become a viral sensation

According to his dad, who recently spoke with TODAY.com, Sam is a neurodivergent fourth-grader, who started taking sewing classes sometime last year. Since then, his passion for sewing has grown — and so have his skills.

"He’s an old soul," Aaron shared. "He’s always connected way more with adults than he does with kids."

Unfortunately, that's caused him some grief at school, where he's often teased by kids who "don't understand him or interests," his dad said. He even gets teased for wearing nail polish — but does it anyway.

Luckily, seeing himself go viral has given the 9-year-old some newfound confidence

"When I showed Sam the comments on TikTok, he lit up," Aaron told the outlet. "It completely brightened him. He’s so happy to get that validation from people."

Here's hoping Sam keeps indulging his passions, no matter what the other kids say. Clearly, he's one talented little dude.
