These DIY Baby Belly Costumes Are Perfect For Expectant Moms This Halloween

We're officially in Halloween mode, friends! Now that everyone's favorite holiday is in our line of vision, it's time to start thinking about costumes. Pregnant people experience a bit of a double whammy: when you're costuming for two, you usually have extra considerations. Luckily, these DIY baby belly costumes are perfect for parents-to-be who don't mind getting a little crafty.

Each of these costumes is constructed around (and in celebration of) your growing belly. They're comfortable, fun to make, and will make celebrating Halloween even more fun.

DIY Baby Belly Costume: Deviled Egg

deviled-egg-costume.jpg

Who doesn't love a good deviled egg? Maybe it's the southerner in me, but this is definitely one of my favorite snacks. If I was expecting this year, I'd be really excited about creating this costume for myself!

Here's what you need:

  • yellow t-shirt or maternity top/dress
  • craft glue
  • white foam board
  • box-cutter knife
  • hole puncher
  • devil horns
  • devil tail
  • red bow tie
  • transparent string
  • scissors
  • pencil

How to make a DIY Deviled Egg Maternity Costume:

  1. Trace an egg shape onto the white foam board
  2. Cut the egg shape out with your scissors
  3. Use a box cutter to cut a circle or oval out of the middle of your egg shape — this is for your yolk!
  4. Use your hole punch to put two holes at the top of the foam board
  5. Run your string through each hole, creating a neck strap that is long enough for the yolk opening to hang in front of your belly
  6. Put on your yellow top or dress and hang the egg around your neck
  7. Add your devil accessories and voilà! You're perfect.

DIY Baby Belly Costume: Kitten with a Ball of Yarn

diy-cat-with-yarn.jpg

This is such a cute idea! As many a cat person knows, kittens love to play with balls of yarn. And as many a pregnant person knows, a belly that's growing a baby can definitely resemble a ball of yarn… so that makes this costume pretty perfect.

Here's what you need:

  • a ball of bulky yarn
  • a black maternity top and coordinating pants/skirt
  • cat ears
  • scissors
  • craft glue

How to make a DIY Kitten With A Ball Of Yarn costume:

  1. Lay your black top out flat and draw a large circle on the belly with your craft glue.
  2. Apply yarn to the circle, leaving the tail (that is still connected to the ball) dangling for now
  3. Fill in the circle with more craft glue
  4. Cover the craft glue with yarn until you are satisfied
  5. Make sure you leave the ball of yarn connected to your shirt
  6. Once everything is dry, put on your cat accessories and make-up, get into your costume, and meow! You're a cat.

  • pack of rainbow pom poms
  • a sharpie

  2. Add more glue and fill in the circle with the rest of the pom poms
  3. Pick up your rectangle of gray felt, and draw a coin slot on it. You can add 25¢ to make it fun!
