NICU Nurse Surprises Mom With Intricate ‘Eras Tour’ Halloween Costume for 2-Month-Old Swiftie

A new mom was surprised to discover that her 2-month-old baby had the perfect outfit for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Emily VandeRydt’s daughter Willa, was born 10 weeks early and stayed in the NICU for six weeks, reported People.

On October 12, Emily entered the NICU room to find her daughter in a Taylor Swift-inspired costume. She discovered that a NICU nurse created the Halloween costume for Willa after learning that Emily was a Swiftie.

For Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, many Swifties have created or purchased outfits based on Taylor Swift’s different “eras.” Taylor Swift herself has also been known to wear outfits inspired by different eras in her music career, and has sported a bedazzled bodysuit for her Lover era.

Willa’s Halloween costume looked just like Taylor’s Lover era bodysuit. Emily shared Willa’s costume on TikTok, calling it “the most adorable Eras Tour felt costume for her first Halloween.”

NICU nurses noticed that Emily appeared to be a Swiftie.

NICU nurses came up with the costume idea after noticing that Emily was wearing a Fearless bracelet. After seeing the bracelet, a nurse named Nickie, asked Emily if she was a Swiftie, reported People. From then on, nurses found cute ways to make Willa and Emily feel more at home. One nurse made a sign for Willa that looked like a friendship bracelet. Nickie gave Emily the Taylor Swift Little Golden book.

In September, Emily shared images of some of the thoughtful gifts for her future Swiftie on TikTok, captioning the post with, “So many of Willa’s nurses in the NICU have been fellow Swifties & it’s been the cutest thing ever!!!”

Nickie told another nurse, Sam, that Willa’s mom is a Swiftie, so Sam decided to design a Taylor Swift-inspired costume for Willa. Sam used felt, pipe cleaners, and different beads to create a costume for Willa that looked just like Taylor Swift’s Lover bodysuit. Emily told People that she was so impressed by the costume, calling it “the most intricate felt costume I’ve ever seen.”

“It really looked like the Lover bodysuit,” she told the publication, adding that “the little silver boots were so cute.”

Willa is finally home, and still on her way to becoming a Swiftie.

Emily and her husband were able to take Willa home on October 19, according to People. At home, Emily has decorated Willa’s nursery with Taylor Swift-inspired decor. She also has held onto Willa’s Eras Tour costume, which she hopes to display. Listening to Taylor Swift’s music helped Emily navigate different emotions throughout her pregnancy and after giving birth to Willa, she explained to People.

Emily shared Willa's costume online to connect with other NICU moms and Swifties.

Emily delivered Willa early because of a preeclampsia diagnosis. Speaking to People, she shared that welcoming Willa made her want to connect with other NICU moms because she didn’t really know anyone who had had a premature baby. Given that she watched a lot of videos from NICU moms, she decided to share Willa’s Swift-inspired costume on TikTok “for other NICU mamas who are Swifties,” she told the publication.

She also praised NICU nurses for the work that they do. “I truly believe NICU nurses are angels for what they do, taking care of the tiniest babies with so much strength and compassion,” she told People.
