A mom made an upsetting discovery after making her toddler a smoothie. In a video shared on TikTok, the mom said she uses her blender nearly every day. However, one day after making a smoothie for her little one, she say she felt “sick to [her] stomach” after noticing metal shards in the blender.
In her video, she warned other parents about the problem by putting clean water in the blender and showing her followers that there were seemingly metal shards floating in the water after blending it.

After watching the first video, some people had doubts about the mom’s claims.

Some people who watched the video encouraged the mom, who goes by @AlaskaBeachMom on TikTok, to make sure she’s cleaning her Magic Bullet blender well, as food or mold could get stuck in it if she’s not using something thin, like a straw brush, to clean it.
Many TikTok users insisted that they couldn’t see any signs of metal in the water. “Are the metal shards in the room with us?” one person commented on the video. Others told the mom that her blender was “just dirty” or moldy. “Imma hold your hand when I tell you this… it’s just dirty metal doesn’t break up because you spin it in water..,” a TikTok user wrote.
The mom poured the water out to show people the metal shards in it.

Replying to a comment that read, “I don’t see shards. pour it out on a paper towel,” the mom showed her followers the “dirt or some sort of substance” that coated the blender every time she ran water through it. However, her TikTok followers remained confident that the substance was “mold not metal.”

After the mom used a magnet, many people stopped doubting her.
In another video, the mom said that her blender is “toast” and “garbage.” However, she made a couple more videos using a magnet to show her followers that there were metal shards (and not mold) in the blender.
“The blender was on its way out. It is garbage. I did try to run it one more time just to show you guys that it is in fact, metal,” she captioned one of the videos. “I ran some milk through it,” she explained. Then, she held a magnet against the outside of it, moving it around. The pieces in the blender followed the magnet. “This is what it looks like, so …” the mom concluded.
She explained that she was simply upset when she made the initial video.

“It is metal,” the mom said in another video. “It’s not mold.” She added that the metal shards are “super finely ground.” “I’m sure it won’t hurt anyone in my house,” she said. “I was just upset yesterday because I never noticed that before.”
Some defended the mom and said she had every right to be concerned.
In spite of claims that the blender might be broken or not washed properly, some said the mom’s discovery was “weird and gross.”
“This actually happened to me and 100% it was metal shards!!!” one person wrote.
