Any parent will tell you that a young child can destroy your immaculate home in a matter of moments. If there is an opportunity to cause chaos, a little kid will often jump at the chance. So unless you are 100% certain you’ve left nothing out for them to ruin, don’t turn your back, not even for a second.
Ricky Gregory, a dad from the United Kingdom, learned this lesson when he left his 2-year-old son, George, alone while he cleaned up. When he returned less than 10 minutes later, George had started an art project that stunned his father.
Gregory told Newsweek he gave George his tablet and went to do the dishes. He was so close that if George called his name, he could have been there in seconds. But when his father wasn’t looking, the little boy got busy.
“Quite often he likes to ‘make a mess,’ but this time it was a bit more than emptying his ball pit or baskets of toys in the play room on the floor,” Gregory said. “Instead, he was emptying the coal scuttle piece by piece, throwing them on the sofa.”
Even though the mess shocked him, the dad said he remained calm and explained the problem to his son. When George told him he’d probably do it again, Gregory said he just laughed.

The video he posted online achieved some viral fame on TikTok. “The time it takes to switch on the dishwasher is all a 2 year old needs to destroy your sofa,” he captioned the clip.
Many parents admitted they might not have reacted so calmly.
“The way I may have had an aneurysm,” someone wrote.
Another parent shared anxiety over their own new couch. “Watching this when my new sofa is coming tomorrow I swear my kids are banned lol,” the commenter wrote.
“Get a carpet cleaner straight on that omg,” someone suggested.
“And where is parent while this going on. You never take eyes of[f] kids,” a critic asked.
Gregory had the perfect response. “Parents had gone to the bingo. Left 2 year old in charge. Unbelievable,” he wrote.
