Meghan Markle may not be a working royal anymore, but some believe her influence is still apparent on the ones who are — especially in the fashion department. Princess Kate Middleton's latest outfit is drawing comparisons to one of Meghan's, and the backlash she's getting online for copping the Duchess of Sussex's style isn't pretty.
Will and Kate attended an event in London on Monday night.
The BAFTA event was a pre-campaign launch for Kate's early education project, Shaping Us. She arrived at the party wearing a red suit designed by Alexander McQueen, keeping her hair and makeup a more low-key level of glam.
Her look was eye-catching for more than one reason — and one of the big ones was that it reminded so many people of her sister-in-law.
Fans think that Kate's look is very similar to ones that Meghan has worn.
As Express pointed out, one of them was the red ensemble Meghan wore to speak at the One Young World Summit. The look from the sustainable brand Another Tomorrow made headlines and received rave reviews when she stepped out in Manchester wearing it in September in one of her final appearances before Queen Elizabeth's death.
Responding to a tweet talking about Kate's red outfit, people couldn't help but compare the two.
"Oh look dressed like Meghan!" one person tweeted.
There's been a lot of chatter about Kate copying Meghan's style recently.
In the wake of Prince Harry's memoir, Spare, many people are rethinking what side of the Sussex vs. Wales feud they're standing on, and it seems as if more are convinced than ever that Kate is trying to copy Meghan's style in an effort to bring the monarchy up to date again after seeing how much people love her.
"The way Kate Middleton tried to hijacked Meghan Markle's style needs to be studied. Where are your coat dresses?" one person asked in another tweet.
Kate's style does seem to be evolving lately.
But whether it's actually because of Meghan's influence is up for debate. Since moving up in the line of succession after the Queen's death last year and receiving the Princess of Wales title, Kate is closer than ever to becoming queen consort.
It makes sense that she'd change her style in preparation for that day. In fact, royal experts have been predicting it for years.
This week is a big one for the princess.
On Tuesday, Kate launched her new project in an effort to continue improving the support parents and children have in their earliest years, which are so influential in who they become as adults. For most of her time as a working royal, this has been one of the issues that has remained closest to her heart — especially after becoming a mom.
It'll be interesting to see what other outfits are in her wardrobe lineup in the coming days … and whether they remind us of a certain duchess or not.
