Keeping children entertained can be an ordeal. One of the best ways to do it is to get them out of the house. Whether you’re just taking a walk or organizing a family vacation, the time seems to pass more quickly when your little ones aren’t staring at you awaiting your next party trick.
One mom on TikTok took her children on a little field trip to pass the time and simultaneously expose them to some culture. She thought she could do this at a local art installation, but the entire family just ended up being creeped out.

A local art center promoted it as a 'family-friendly' event.
Ilana Wiles, who goes by @mommyshorts on TikTok, documented the family excursion so we could see just how strange the experience was. The local arts center billed the installation as "family-friendly." But after checking out many of the exhibits, she and her children begged to differ. There were painted pale people standing very still and then bursting out in movement.
Wile's daughter declared one of the exhibits 'scary.'
Next, there was something called a "Time Bomb" barn. Before they even got inside, Wiles’ daughter declared it "scary." But they went inside anyway. Inside, they found a gondolier who mimed rowing a boat, while another pale, very still woman was lying in the boat. One of Wiles' children asked if it was a funeral. It wasn’t. The pale woman eventually started singing, still in her supine position.
Another exhibit featured a dehydrated mermaid.
Another installation was a blue box with a film playing inside. Wiles and her children started to watch it, but she removed them when it seemed like a man was about to set a bed on fire with a woman lying on top of it.
One of the more tame exhibits featured men in tracksuits playing pool in a hole in the ground. Then they stumbled upon a dehydrated mermaid. Visitors offered water to the person in the full-bodied metallic suit.

Wiles said she wants to know where to send the therapy bill.
In a more traditional family-friendly moment, the girls had some cotton candy, but it was followed up by a man dressed as a plant, 6 feet underground, speaking Portuguese. The plant-headed man then spoke English to ask Wiles’ nephew Jack how he was doing.
The last thing they saw before they decided it was time to go were men in green suits dancing to computer startup sounds. Wiles says she hopes one of the artists sees the video because she wonders who’s going to pay for the therapy her children will need.
It's all funny in retrospect, but could you even imagine showing up to something like this with your young kids?!
