Princess Diana previously accused her ex-husband of being jealous of her undeniable popularity, but a lot has changed since then! Now it seems that King Charles doesn't mind sharing the limelight — at least, not where Kate Middleton and Prince William are concerned — and one royal expert is explaining why.

People were overjoyed when Kate Middleton showed up at the Chelsea Flower Show.

The unexpected appearance seemed to eclipse any excitement over the presence of the newly crowned monarch, something that Charles was rumored to have a problem with in the past.
These days, royal expert Robert Jobson says Charles is totally fine with it. "Whilst it is Charles' head that wears the Crown, it is [Prince] William, Catherine, and their children that will steal the limelight," he wrote in the Daily Mail.
Jobson says it's only right for the younger royals to be more popular.
"This time, it will be with Charles' blessing — for he knows for monarchy to survive it must be relevant to the younger generation," he continued, acknowledging how sharing the spotlight with another royal, namely Princess Diana, had been a problem for the newly crowned king in the past.
Diana addressed the jealousy during her controversial 1995 interview.
"The pressure on us both as a couple with the media was phenomenal, and misunderstood by a great many people," she recalled during her now controversial Panorama interview.
"We'd be going round Australia, for instance, and all you could hear was, 'Oh, she's on the other side,'" she continued.
This knowledge made some worry that Charles would be unhappy with his daughter-in-law.
A royal source shared concern with the Daily Mail in an earlier report, mentioning being "alarmed" by the idea that the new monarch's visit wasn't as widely celebrated as Kate's was.
"It's a shame that his visit with [Queen Camilla] received less coverage than it might have expected to," the insider told the newspaper at the time.

If Jobson is correct, that means Charles is truly following in his mother's footsteps.
One of the reasons Queen Elizabeth was so beloved was because of her "Never complain, never explain" motto. It looks like Charles may be pulling a page from his mother's book and keeping quiet about any jealousy about his popularity compared to the other members of his family.
That's bound to endear him to some, helping him finally achieve the higher level of popularity he's been seeking.
