4-Year-Old Boy With the ‘Biggest Heart’ Drowns While Vacationing at a Campground With His Parents

A North Carolina family’s vacation ended in tragedy when their 4-year-old son drowned in a pool at the Goose Creek Campground. At 9 p.m. on June 14, 2025, police received a call about a boy who had been found unresponsive in a pool at the campground. The boy was later identified as Brayden Clay Edwards of Garner, North Carolina. Bystanders performed life-saving procedures on the preschooler before an ambulance took him to Carteret Health Care. He was later pronounced dead there.

Details are limited.

Brayden was vacationing on the coast of North Carolina with his parents, The Raleigh News & Observer reported. The details of what happened before his drowning have not been made available to the public. The sheriff’s office has also not released any information about the depth of the pool, how Brayden ended up in the pool, or whether he knew how to swim, WRAL reported. They were unable to reach his parents for comment.

Brayden’s obituary describes his personality and details his passions.

Brayden’s funeral services took place on June 20. In his obituary, Brayden is described as a child who came into the world full speed, chasing adventure. He enjoyed anything with wheels and loved mud, especially muddy tires.

‘To know Brayden was to love him deeply,’ his obituary reads.

“He had the biggest heart,” his obituary continues. “Brayden was kind, thoughtful, hilarious, and so smart. He had a joke for every moment, a silly face for every mood, and a laugh that made even the hardest days better. To know Brayden was to love him deeply – because he made it so easy.”

He left behind a lifetime of memories, his obituary states.

He is survived by his parents, grandparents, and soon-to-be-baby sister. “Brayden’s story is one of laughter, mud, speed, and so much love. Though his time with us was short, he left behind a lifetime of memories, and a legacy of joy that will live on forever – in every muddy puddle, every silly giggle, and every pinky promise.”

Brayden would have celebrated his fifth birthday on August 6.
