‘Cherished Mother’ of 2 Shot & Killed at a Local McDonald’s in Alleged Murder-Suicide

A family and community are in mourning after a mother was shot and killed. Kianna Jackson was with her two children at a Mississippi McDonald’s when she died. A man she was allegedly in a relationship with was the one who shot her. After shooting her, he turned the gun on himself. Because of this, authorities are calling the killing a murder-suicide.

However, the man didn’t immediately die; he died from his injuries several days later. Now, there are two young children left behind without parents.

On June 16, 2025, police responded to reports of a shooting at a McDonald’s in Brandon, Mississippi, WJTV reported. Brandon Police Chief Joseph French said officers found the victim, later identified as 25-year-old Kianna Jackson, had died of an apparent gunshot wound. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Jhonterryes Dampier was also at the scene, suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Dampier was taken to a local hospital for treatment, while Jackson’s body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.

“This was a horrible incident. It’s even more tragic when a domestic situation like this happens in front of children. Our prayers go out to everyone connected to those involved,” Brandon Mayor Butch Lee said in a statement.

On June 18, Dampier died from his injuries, WJTV reported. According to French, his death was confirmed by the Rankin County Coroner’s Office. He also shared that an investigation into both deaths is still ongoing.

The O’Farrall Management Group, which owns and operates the McDonald’s franchise where the incident took place, released a statement, per WAPT. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ family and loved ones. We’re providing support to our restaurant employees and will continue to assist law enforcement with their ongoing investigation,” it said.

Jackson’s family started a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses. The description calls her a “cherished mother that’s leaving behind two beautiful children,” a 5-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son. “She also was a beloved daughter, sister and friend.” The family said money raised above and beyond funeral costs will be put into a trust for her children.

Billie Shantay McCune-Kidd, who recently met Jackson, wrote on Facebook that their children played together at a park just before Jackson took her children to McDonald’s. “I would have never imagined that 5 minutes later, she would be gone. She was SO SWEET with 2 of the most precious kids,” McCune-Kidd wrote.
