Police in California say a mother apparently thought it would be OK to have a 12-year-old child park a car at the Rancho Seneca Apartment complex in Victorville. The decision nearly cost her and her baby their lives. Officers from the Victorville Police Department, responded to a call about a collision involving a pedestrian but had no idea what they would soon discover.
According to a statement from police, the accident occurred just before 4 p.m. on July 2, 2025. During the investigation, police pieced together a sequence of events.
“The mother stood near the driver’s door, holding her infant child, while the 12-year-old moved the vehicle,” the police statement explained. “While moving the vehicle, the vehicle door hit the mother causing her to fall to the ground and drop her infant child. The infant sustained head injuries and was flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center. The investigation is ongoing.”
The infant’s condition is unknown. According to the Los Angeles Times, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office referred to the incident as “cruelty to children.” The sheriff reportedly forwarded the case to the San Bernardino Prosecutor’s Office. It’s unclear at this time whether the mother will face charges.
The story shocked people, who couldn’t believe a mother would let a 12-year-old drive a car.
“Too many stupid or irresponsible people,” one person wrote.
“Oh I hope they throw the book at that mother. Jesus Christ, the stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze me,” someone else wrote on Facebook.
