Choosing a unique baby name can be a challenge, and many influencers have been criticized for trying a bit too hard to be different. The criticism is nothing new for Aubree and Josh Jones, who have welcomed seven children. Even before welcoming their latest child, the couple faced backlash for the interesting names they chose for their older kiddos. (Their kids are named Trendy, Zaylee, Sunny, Truly, Journey, and Rocky).
But as one of Aubree’s Instagram followers put it, “magically all the other kids’ names seem normal now” after the unveiling of their seventh child’s name.
The mom said the unique name is ‘perfect’ for her baby.
In the days leading up to baby No. 7’s arrival, Aubree dropped some hints about the name she and Josh had selected. They officially announced the name on October 6: Disney Mae Jones.
Explaining the name choice a bit more in an October 7 post, the mom wrote, “We had multiple confirmations that this would be her name. From a shooting star while in labor to seeing her name in the scriptures…with a little dyslexia. This baby is so sweet, so special, so magical and Disney Mae is the perfect name for her.”
But some of her followers didn’t love it.
Of course, they were happy for the parents after they welcomed their seventh child, but they still had questions about the influencers’ name choices. Some of Aubree’s followers actually hoped she was joking. “Please tell me this is a joke! 😢 poor baby,” one of them wrote. Another person questioned, “Do parents realize they’re naming humans and not cats?”
A third critic wrote, “Where do you get your kids names from 🤦♀️🤦♀️”
Several others had concerns about how having the name “Disney” would affect her in the future. “As a teacher… she’s going to get made fun of by her peers. 😩 we do the best we can to stop it. But we can’t police every aspect of their day,” another follower commented.
One of the critics has already started thinking about baby Disney’s future career. “I don’t see a CEO in the making with the name Disney,” the commenter warned. “Beautiful baby girl, but Disney is really far out there for her to live with.”
Many others, however, defended the parents.
Some argued that, in Aubree’s defense, other people’s opinions don’t really matter. “Aw, she is adorable!” one person commented. “If you love the name that is all that matters. Welcome to the world, Disney Mae Jones!”
Another person shared about not being so sure about the name, but admitted that their opinion isn’t important. “I’m sorry Disney? I love Disney but as a name? I’m not so sure,” the commenter wrote. “But hey my opinion doesn’t matter because im just a stranger on the internet so really what do I know?”
In spite of the backlash, some people loved the baby’s “unique and beautiful name.”
