Angelina Jolie Asks Brad Pitt To Reimburse Her for $33k in Legal Fees After ‘Emotionally Difficult’ Divorce

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt may have settled their divorce last year, but they’re still battling each other in court. In new court documents filed this week, Angelina described their split as “emotionally difficult” for her and her children, and now, she’s asking her ex-husband for $33,000 in legal fees she believes he should be responsible for that she incurred during one part of their dispute.

Brad and Angelina are still locked in a courtroom battle over the French home they once shared, Chateau Miraval. Brad is suing his ex-wife for her share of the home, which she already sold to the Stoli Group. Brad has said that she wasn’t able to sell without his permission, but Angelina tells a completely different story.

Most recently, Brad has asked Angelina to turn over private messages involving the chateau, and on Monday, Angelina filed her response at the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Angelina shared how difficult the divorce was on her and her kids.

In court documents obtained by Page Six, Angelina talked about how hard the period leading up to her divorce from Brad really was behind the scenes.

“The events leading to my need to separate from my ex-husband were emotionally difficult for me and our children,” she wrote. “Upon filing for divorce, I left him control (and full residency) of our family homes in Los Angeles and at Miraval, without compensation, which I hoped would make him calmer in his dealings with me after a difficult and traumatic period.”

Things were so hard back then that she and her kids have never been able to go back to the chateau because of its “connection to the painful events leading to the divorce.”

She said she was in dire straights when she sold her share of Chateau Miraval.

Not only did Angelina not have financial support from Brad during that time, but she also wasn’t working.

“I was also very concerned about the health of our children, and so, for approximately two years, I declined work so that I could focus my attention on caring for our children and their recovery,” she said.

Angelina added, “Miraval was one of the first major investments we made together, and it was a focal point of our family life. We were married there, I spent part of my pregnancy there and I brought our twin children home there from the hospital. To have such a sudden break from my home and memories has been hard, and it was especially difficult for the children to have their lives so disrupted.”

Now, she is seeking $33,000 from her ex.

It cost Angelina $33,000 in legal fees to respond to his motion for her to turn over her messages, and now, Angelina wants that money back.

“Jolie, through counsel, repeatedly asked Pitt to withdraw [the motion],” her lawyers wrote in the court documents. “She even warned him numerous times that if the Court denied Pitt’s motion, Jolie would ask the Court to order Pitt to pay Jolie’s attorneys’ fees opposing the motion. Pitt still refused to withdraw it. Jolie thus requests that the Court order Pitt to reimburse her for the substantial attorneys’ fees she was forced to incur.”
