On numerous occasions, people have criticized Kim Kardashian for coming across as out of touch. Some people actually appreciate that she sort of admitted that’s the case during her recent appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast. At the same time, others couldn’t believe she really said she doesn’t know the cost of a lot of basic items that people purchase regularly.
The cost of milk is a mystery to her.
No one is surprised that Kim and other members of the Kardashian-Jenner family don’t need to worry about money. But Kim’s comments still struck a nerve with some people — because why would she actually say she wishes she knew “a little bit more” about how much milk costs? After all, she could surely find this information if she really wanted it.
But here are her exact words: “I mean, I don’t have a concept of what certain simple things cost. You know, I’d like to know a little bit more about what a milk carton costs.”
OK, Kim.
In response, one critic on X wrote, “Guess they didn’t teach her how to use google in law school.” And while we were all well aware that Kim has a lot of money, some people couldn’t believe that Kim really went there while on the podcast. “It’s unbelievable how out of touch she is while people live paycheck to paycheck,” another person said. A third critic commented, “She should’ve kept this to herself.”
After all, what was Kim’s point exactly?
As some critics pointed out, if Kim was genuinely curious about the cost of basic necessities, she could easily figure it out. That’s why many felt her curiosity didn’t come across as genuine. “This question and response was likely also to highlight how unrelatable she is,” one person on Reddit hypothesized. Others argued there was nothing “cute” or funny about Kim’s comment.
“Not knowing the price of milk isn’t ‘cute,’ it’s a symbol of disgusting inequality,” someone on X wrote. “While she ‘would like to know,’ there are people choosing between milk and rent.”
But some people actually had no issue with it.

At the very least, some people argued, Kim was not trying to come across as “normal” or “relatable.” “I actually liked her honesty and found it funny,” one Redditor noted. “We all know she’s rich it would be more annoying if she pretended to be working class.” Another person agreed, writing, “It would be super fake for her to pretend that she’s just a regular woman. She didn’t even try to [expletive] because we all know what she is, and at least she’s owns it.”
And to be fair, lots of people who are not nearly as wealthy as Kim don’t know how much milk costs either. “I bought milk two hours ago and couldn’t tell you what it cost,” someone else pointed out. “I need milk, I buy it.” While many people echoed this exact sentiment, Kim obviously has a very different reason for not knowing anything about the cost of milk.
