Prince Andrew has been stripped of all of his titles following his involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, but it sounds like his nephew, Prince William, doesn’t think enough has been done to rectify the situation. According to royal insiders, William reportedly plans to make sure there’s even more distance between Andrew and the royals when it’s his turn on the throne, and that also means his uncle won’t be invited to his future coronation.
According to what a palace source told the Sunday Times, after William was “consulted” about Andrew giving up his titles, he made it clear that he wasn’t “satisfied with the outcome” and plans to take a harsher route when it comes to his disgraced uncle in the future.
“When William is King, Andrew will be banned from all elements of royal life,” the Times reported. “He will be excluded from public and private royal events, including the coronation, and banned from most state occasions.”
William reportedly also wants to ensure that Andrew will be kept from even family get togethers, since he’s worried that his presence at those types of events will lead to bad optics for the royals. In fact, he thinks that Andrew is such a “threat” to the royals’ reputation that he’s planning on keeping his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, away from family gatherings, as well.
Fortunately, though, his relationship with cousins Beatrice and Eugenie seems to remain in tact.
“William remains close to their daughters, his cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, whose titles and status are unaffected, and will continue to include them in family and official events,” the Times claimed.
Those close to the royals have acknowledged what a distraction the scandal has been for the monarchy.
“It has clouded everything,” one insider said. “It’s really important that people see the work of the wider family, but at the moment, this is still a huge distraction. The King is about to do one of his most important state visits to the Holy See, but it comes against this backdrop and it’s very difficult for him.”
The source added, “It’s clearly damaging, embarrassing and distasteful. But the King, the Queen, the Prince and Princess of Wales, Anne, Edward and Sophie are all still fulfilling their roles. They have public support and the institution will remain a central part of British life.”
