2-Month-Old Found Dead With Signs of Severe Abuse, Including a Severed Spine

Two Louisiana parents are facing charges that include first-degree murder after the death of their daughter. Kaylee Fontenot and Taylor Broussard were arrested after police responded to a call about an infant in distress. Despite the best efforts of both police officers and paramedics, the girl died. When an autopsy was performed, horrific amounts of abuse were uncovered. The baby girl was only a couple of months old but had been physically harmed to the point where her spine was severed. Police are still investigating, but hopefully the parents stay in jail in the meantime.

Just after 8 p.m. October 25, 2025, officers from the Opelousas Police Department responded to a medical emergency, the department shared in a news release. A 2-month-old girl was not breathing. Immediately, officers began administering life-saving aid until paramedics arrived. Tragically, the baby girl was declared dead when she got to the hospital.

“Through interviews, investigators identified the parents as Kaylee Fontenot and Taylor Broussard and learned that the child had been in their exclusive custody since birth,” the release noted. Arrest warrants were issued for both parents on charges of first-degree murder, cruelty to juveniles, and second-degree battery.

Investigators found and arrested Fontenot quickly, but Broussard was still at large at the time of the release on October 31.

Broussard turned himself in on November 3, according to police. He was taken to St. Landry Parish jail, People reported.

“Following the autopsy, investigators learned that the infant suffered severe neglect and physical abuse,” the news release read. The amount of abuse the 2-month-old endured in such a short time is nothing short of horrifying.

Her body showed signs of extreme dehydration and malnourishment. Additionally, she had broken ribs and some showed signs of healing. Her lower spine was severed, which caused internal bleeding that ultimately led to her death.

“Our hearts are with this infant who suffered unimaginable abuse,” Chief Graig LeBlanc shared in the release. “This case is in its early stages, and our investigators are working tirelessly to uncover every detail. We ask the public for patience, cooperation, and assistance in helping us pursue justice.”
