Sister Wives fans have watched three out of four of Kody Brown‘s marriages go down in flames in recent years, and it sounds like his relationships with several of his adult children aren’t faring much better. On this week’s episode of the show, Kody’s ex Janelle Brown said that her daughter Madison hasn’t spoken to her dad in years.
When Janelle was asked on the show if Maddie had told Kody the good news that she was expecting her fourth child with husband Caleb Brush, she gave a surprising answer.
“No, Maddie doesn’t really even tell him that she’s pregnant. He’ll find out,” Janelle said, adding, “They haven’t spoken for a long time. It’s probably been two or three years.”
This isn’t the first time that Janelle has pointed out how strained the relationships between Kody and his children are. On an episode of Sister Wives that aired last December, she said, “Kody is alienated from 90 to 95 percent of his children. He is not really wanted at events. He is not coming regardless of who he brings or doesn’t bring with him.”
Maddie hasn’t been shy about sharing where she stands with her dad, either. On a 2024 episode of her podcast, The Authentic Society, she said that she had gone no contact with Kody.
“He doesn’t have any respect for boundaries, and you have to play by his rules, and I just don’t care to do that,” she said at the time.
She went on to say that since she’s a “straight shooter,” she didn’t always tell Kody exactly what he wanted to hear, and it seems like that’s something he didn’t take very well. Maddie added, “There was a lot of anger and he’d be like, ‘That’s not true!’ and I’m like, ‘It is true. I know this firsthand.'”
“I always get messages from people who are like, ‘You should just forgive your dad and respect him,’” Maddie said. “And I’m like, ‘I don’t think you know what you’re talking about because your experience with your dad could be very different than my experience with my dad.’”
