With a 26 year age gap between them, it goes without saying that Hilaria Baldwin, 41, and husband Alec Baldwin, 67, would have unique situations to work out in their marriage. And now, thanks to a podcast interview that Hilaria did this week, we know that the couple uses therapy to help navigate that age gap in their relationship after more than 13 years of marriage and seven children together.
Hilaria appeared on Wednesday’s new episode of the Uncut and Uncensored podcast, where she told host Caroline Stanbury that even after falling in love with someone over two decades her senior, she still doesn’t believe that “age is just a number.”
“There are certain things where I have to look at him and say, ‘He has 26 more years of experience,’” Hilaria said. “And sometimes that’s a flex, and sometimes that means that we need to do a little therapy.”
The difference in their ages isn’t the only topic they need a little expert advice on handling; Hilaria said that she and Alec come to “hard times” in their marriage that they’ve worked through in therapy, like many married couples have.
“Do we have our normal, marital arguments? One hundred percent. But it’s the desire to both want to be there and to both want to make it work,” she said. “When you have that, I think you can go through anything together.”
Hilaria also admitted that she “did lose part of my identity when I married Alec” since being married to someone so famous mean that people were talking about her “on a very massive level.”
Through the ups and downs of the way the public has perceived her over the years (including the scandal that followed when her ever changing accent was called into question) Hilaria said that she now “knows” herself better than she did before her marriage to Alec.
“I haven’t been as clear as I should have been with myself about my identity,” she said. “People can say this or that. I cannot stop them. But I can know myself in a way that hopefully it won’t give me that nauseous pit in my stomach that I’ve experienced so many times.”
