What to Know
Kate Middleton has (mostly) been known to have truly fabulous hair, but some questionable decisions she’s made regarding her locks have critics wishing they could hold her hair team accountable.
Photos of Kate’s hair flops — including her very controversial (and very brief) blonde switch-up earlier this year — are making the rounds on social media, and it’s revived the debate about whether or not Kate wears wigs all over again.
The topic came up in a Reddit post this week.
Earlier this week, one user in a royal gossip subreddit shared several photos of Kate’s hair through the years in a post, writing, “All these years and Kate still can’t get the wiglets, weaves, lacefront wigs right. What’s the problem?”
The post sparked a lot of criticism about Kate’s various styles during her time in the spotlight — and questions about why someone with the kind of access to professional hair dressers that she does wouldn’t have gotten the hang of her own look by now.
“I’m wondering if she doesn’t want to admit to using wigs/extensions so she does it herself,” one person speculated. “It would explain the poor quality of hair used, the lack of blending, improper placement, poor color matching etc. She’s limited to what she can find/buy online and do herself.”
Another wrote, “I think her hair team hates her and is perpetuating a long running joke.”
There has been quite a bit of debate about Kate and wigs in recent months.
While people have always wondered the secret to Kate’s hair always looking so voluminous, some have been dead set on the idea that she’s been using wigs and extensions for most of her life as a royal, whether she’s been willing to admit it or not.
As Marie Claire has pointed out, Kate’s hair has seemed to grow in volume over the years, when typically, the opposite happens as people age. And while she was once called out for having a visible wig line in a photo, a palace spokesperson said it was actually a scar from a “childhood operation.”
Kate has reportedly used the same hairdresser for years.
Kate’s personal hairdresser is Amanda Cook Tucker, who joined her team in 2012, and as far as we know, that hasn’t changed, so a more recent change in style for her is a bit confusing.
But it’s also important to remember that Kate’s been through quite a health scare over the past couple of years as she spent months undergoing treatment for cancer. That can certainly play a part in how her hair looks, and we only have as much information about her condition as she and the palace are willing to make public.
