‘Panicked’ Dad Ran To Get Help When House Fire Broke Out, Leaving His 3 Kids To Die in the Flames

November 27, 2025, was a night Joshua Kannin and Jourdan Feasby will never forget. Feasby spent Thanksgiving morning with the couple’s three children, Rylee Levi, 10, Connor Liam, 9, and Alena Ellen, 7. Later that day, she dropped them off to Kannin, their father, for the evening. When she kissed her children goodbye, Feasby had no idea she’d never see them alive again. A fire broke out at Kannin’s home, and the reportedly panicked father ran to get help, leaving his three children behind. The fire spread quickly, and the flames, heat, and smoke became too much. All three children perished, leaving behind a heartbroken community.

Emergency crews responded to a home in Kenosha, Wisconsin, just before 11 p.m. on Thanksgiving night, CBS 58 reported that The fire grew rapidly, and sadly, Rylee and Connor died in the fire. Crews took Alena to an area hospital for treatment, but she died a short time later.

According to court documents obtained by People, Kannin awoke and noticed smoke. He reportedly saw a small fire on the kitchen floor and panicked. Instead of grabbing his children, he told police he ran to a neighbor’s for help.

“I opened the door (to his residence), and I heard my kids. I tried to go back in, but smoke just came at me, and I couldn’t see. I barely got two steps in, and I had to turn back around,” Kannin told police. “When I opened the door, it made it even worse.”

The father claimed he smoked a cigarette in the kitchen before the fire but felt sure he had put it out. Police searched his cellphone and found no criminal activity related to the fire, the magazine reported. The case remains under investigation.

“As the investigation progresses, in conjunction with the Kenosha Fire Department, they will continue to methodically rule out all possible causes of the fire,” Kenosha Police Department spokesman Lt. Joshua Hecker shared with People. “This is a complex and evolving case, and we remain committed to a thorough, impartial, and evidence-driven investigation.”

Feasby cannot get over the fact that she’ll never see her children again. “I was so excited for Christmas shopping, but now it’s just caskets,” she told CBS 58. “They brought all of this light that now I don’t have.”

She also feels frustrated that Kannin apparently panicked and didn’t try to get the kids out of the apartment sooner.

“You can sit here and say all you want to that I would’ve done this, this, and this, but when you’re in the situation, it’s completely different,” Feasby told the outlet. “But I will tell you that if I was in that situation, without a doubt, my kids would’ve been out or I would’ve been dead with them.”

Loved ones have raised more than $60,000 via a GoFundMe account to help with final expenses.

Losing a child is heart-wrenching, but losing all of your children at once is a pain no parent should ever have to feel. Our hearts go out to everyone, and we hope that Kannin did, in fact, just panic and didn’t have criminal intent. That would be truly monstrous.
