What to Know
If you ever wondered what Taylor Swift and her friends talk about in their text messages, wonder no more. This week, a judge unsealed tons of documents related to Blake Lively’s lawsuit against her It Ends With Us costar Justin Baldoni, and that included text messages between Blake and Taylor — including a pretty personal exchange that showed the way they handled a conflict they were having. As it turns out, the pressures of the media really do impact celebrities and their friendships behind the scenes.
The conversation began when Blake admitted things felt “weird” in their friendship.
In the text messages that were dated December 2024, Blake reached out to Taylor asking if everything was okay with between them.
“I felt like a bad friend lately because I was such a sad sack who only talked about my own s— for months,” she wrote (via People). “You were generous to not only be the key person there for me during all of it, but also to let me off the hook for being so in it.”
She said that husband Ryan Reynolds encouraged her to open up the conversation, and added, “I always want the opportunity to be a better friend if there’s something I unintentionally did. I know how busy and taxed you are — physically, emotionally, practically, so I don’t expect any more from you ever.”
Taylor admitted that something did feel off between them.
Taylor replied with a lengthy text message of her own, telling Blake that even though things did feel weird in their friendship, she didn’t see it as a “big deal.”
“I feel really bad saying anything about this because your texts have been so nice in their intent but your last few… it’s felt like I was reading a mass corporate email sent to 200 employees,” Taylor wrote. “And it feels awful to be in any way critical of any way you process what you’ve been going through but I just kinda miss my funny, dark, normal-speaking friend who talks to me as herself.”
She added, “And I know you feel attacked from all sides for ridiculous reasons so you’re feeling like you have to overly explain things… but. It’s me! That’s just caused a little distance. And you don’t need to apologize. Just come back please.”
In the end, they were able to resolve it.
After a couple of well placed jokes, Blake admitted that she was feeling “paranoid” because of everything that happened with the lawsuit, saying that Justin had given her an “identity crisis.”
All was well between them after they hashed things out, and while it certainly can’t be fun to have such personal texts exposed like this, they did kind of (unintentionally) give us all a master class in handling conflict with a friend…
