Postpartum depression is never an easy topic to talk about, but it's an important one, and now, celebrity mom Halle Bailey is opening up about what it's been like for her so far. In a video she shared on social media, the Little Mermaid star shared her experience with what she describes as "severe, severe" PPD after welcoming her first child, a son named Halo, into the world at the end of 2023 and the ways it's had an impact on her motherhood journey so far.

Halle shared her story on Snapchat.
As People reported, Halle admitted that she had been "triggered" by some of the comments she'd seen about her fam on social media and wanted to share a bit of what was going on with her behind the scenes.
As it turns out, even though Halle adores her baby boy, she's been struggling during this time.
Her PPD is keeping her from living her life normally.
"I have severe, severe postpartum, and I don't know if any new moms can relate, but it's to the point where it's really bad, and it's hard for me to be separated from my baby for more than 30 minutes at a time before I start to kind of freak out," she shared.
She said that now she feels like 'a completely different person.'
It's gotten so bad that she said she doesn't recognize herself when she looks in the mirror.
"Before I had a child and I would hear people talk about postpartum, it would kind of just go in one ear and out the other," she said. "I didn't realize how serious of a thing it actually was. Now going through it, it almost feels like you're swimming in this ocean that's like the biggest waves you've ever felt and you're trying not to drown. And you're trying to come up for air."
She was sure to point out that it has nothing to do with her love for Halo.
"Halo is a miracle. He is perfect. He is beautiful. When I look at him, I cry because of how special he is. The only thing that's been hard for me is feeling normal in my own body," she said.

She hopes that sharing her story will help others.
"Even though you may look up to certain people and you think that they are celebrities, and they appear it have it all together, you never know what somebody else is going through, especially someone who just had a baby literally," she said.
Well said! So many women have experienced postpartum depression after birth, and it's worth it to extend a little extra kindness and understanding to the new moms in your life — and to ask for help if you're going through it yourself.
