Cop Finds 1-Year-Old Walking on a Bed & Holding a Vape Pen While in the Care of Her Drunk Mom

A mom of two in Texas is facing multiple child endangerment charges after police performed a welfare check in her home. The mom, Kailyn Gonzalez, seemed intoxicated, which caused someone close to her to ask police to ensure she and her two young children were OK. Gonzalez cooperated with police and let them into her home, but what they found inside wasn’t good. Not only was her home a mess, but her toddler also got ahold of a vape pen left lying around. Naturally, police had to arrest the mom based on what they found, and her choices may have lost her custody of her children.

Officers from the McAllen police department received a call for a welfare check on February 3, 2026, Valley Central reported.

The person who called for the welfare check told the dispatcher she found Gonzalez passed out while her children were alone in another room. Gonzalez then woke up and kicked the caller out of the apartment and then locked herself and her children in a bedroom.

The door was slightly open when police arrived, and they found several BeatBox alcoholic drinks on the floor. Officers identified themselves, and Gonzalez reportedly yelled “I’m over here,” according to an offense report obtained by Valley Central. She opened the bedroom door, letting the officers inside.

A 6-year-old girl was asleep on the bed, while a 1-year-old girl was walking on the bed, police noted in the report. The mom nearly fell as she attempted to sit down, police observed.

“I am fine, I want my lawyer here,” she told them, per Valley Central. Police reportedly noticed she had unsteady balance, slurred speech, and bloodshot eyes as they questioned her.

Soon, they saw the 1-year-old grab at something as she made her way to the headboard. That object looked like a vape pen. “I quickly reached over Kailyn and took the vape away from [the girl]. As I was taking the vape pen away from [the girl], Kailyn immediately saw it and advised us it was nothing,” the police report read. The vape pen tested positive for nicotine.

Inside the bedroom, police officers also found a kitchen knife on top of a dresser, old food on the floor, and old diapers. The 6-year-old was wearing dirty clothes.

Gonzalez was charged with endangering a child after they noticed the knife “within reach of both children and a nicotine vape pen in plain view,” the outlet reported. Child Protective Services was called to assist.

According to police, they also had been called to Gonzalez’s apartment on January 17, because of “Kailyn being intoxicated with her children at location,” per Valley Central.

Gonzalez was arrested and booked on February 3, according to Hidalgo County jail records. She was charged with two counts of endangerment of a child and reckless, criminal negligence and was released the same day on a $10,000 surety bond.
