What to Know
If you’ve been following along with Kailyn Lowry‘s story on Teen Mom 2 and beyond, you already know that she’s had a lot of ups and downs with the fathers of seven children over the years. For her, this has meant spending a lot of time in courtrooms establishing custody and child support (and then returning to fight some more about it, as many estranged parents do). And now, she’s finally opening up about the true financial cost of all those court dates.
Kailyn now has a pretty big family.
Kailyn was only just giving birth to her very first child, son Isaac Elliott, with her then-boyfriend Jo Rivera. She’d go on to welcome son Lincoln with ex-husband Javi Marroquin, followed by Lux and Creed with ex Chris Lopez, and the youngest of her crew — which includes son Rio and twins Verse and Valley — with ex-boyfriend Elijah Scott.
Needless to say, this has probably required her to sit through a lot of family court, and according to a video that Kail shared on TikTok, she has spent over $1 million on legal fees alone to ensure she and her children get a fair shake.
She called her relationship with her kids’ dads “contentious.”
@kaillowry I read a quote once that said "If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it." & this is me trying to light the candles of all the single mothers out there 🖤 PART 1 of this series drops at 12PM EST tomorrow 2/8 at Patreon.com/kaillowry with new parts coming in the following weeks. Each part drops with a downloadable set of key takeaways and notes directly from me. 🖤

“I have seven kids, and my relationship with the dads is a little contentious,” she admitted in the video. “I never anticipated leaving my kids’ dads. I, unfortunately, was the one to leave all four of them.”
Now that she feels like she’s learned enough and has a strong enough support system behind her, she’s ready to share what she’s learned from this experience to hopefully help another mom going through something similar.
“Nobody wins in child custody,” Kail pointed out.
She doesn’t think she should have to provide entirely for her children just because she has the ability to.
She went on to share that she believes some of her kids’ dads have gotten “a little too comfortable” with her financial situation and have expected the burden of their expenses to fall solely on her because of that.
“Regardless of how much I make, I did not make this child by myself,” she said. “And just because I can doesn’t mean I should. You could have the most seamless relationship like Elijah and myself. I’m still documenting everything.”
As if raising seven children as a single mom isn’t stressful enough, the legal aspect of it all has to be even more draining — and not just on her bank account. But maybe by speaking out about her situation, another mom really will feel more prepared going into family court when the time comes.
