People Think Ivanka Trump Is Running for President After Lunar New Year Post Backfires

The Lunar New Year has arrived, and along with it, the Year of the Fire Horse… and we’re hearing about it from one of the last people we expected: president Donald Trump‘s daughter, Ivanka Trump. After her (kind of bizarre) social media post about the holiday, some people believe that she’s hinting at a run for president, while others are more concerned about the photo she posted along with her message.

Ivanka wrote that she is “excited for what’s ahead.”

“Today, a new lunar cycle begins,” Ivanka’s post began. “The Year of the Fire Horse calls us to courage, to energy, to intention, and to fearless creation. It is a year for bold ideas, decisive action, and turning vision into something enduring.”

She continued, “I am stepping into it with clarity and conviction, ready to bring forward projects I have been quietly nurturing, ideas nearly ready to meet the light. I cannot wait to share them with you.”

She added that she’s planning to go forward with strength, gratitude, and purpose, without actually sharing what those projects might be.

Her post got a lot of mixed reactions.

Obviously, it sounds like the 44-year-old has a lot of news she’s planning to share soon — like a potential presidential run in 2028 — though many people weren’t impressed that Ivanka was taking a holiday like the Lunar New Year and making it all about herself.

“There is perhaps no more quintessential representation of the American woman in 2026 than the President’s daughter using Chinese New Years as an opportunity to post a picture of herself on the internet,” one person responded. “But thank you for keeping your clothes on, that was a classy touch.”

Another replied, “tell us [you’re] gonna start grifting without telling us you’re gonna start grifting.”

Ivanka has said she’s not interested in pursuing politics in the future.

When her dad announced that he was running for president in 2024, Ivanka issued a statement making it clear that she wouldn’t be involved, even though she had worked for him during his first term after he was elected in 2016.

“I love my father very much. This time around I am choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life we are creating as a family. I do not plan to be involved in politics,” she said at the time, according to CNN. “While I will always love and support my father, going forward I will do so outside the political arena. I am grateful to have had the honor of serving the American people and I will always be proud of many of our Administration’s accomplishments.”

So has she changed her mind, or is she hinting at something else entirely? Time will tell…
