A resurfaced clip has reminded people of a hilarious (and super awkward) interaction between Lady Gaga and Caitlyn Jenner. In the clip, Caitlyn tried to make small talk with Lady Gaga and pointed out that she hadn’t seen her in a while. And Lady Gaga’s response has people convinced that this was actually not a coincidence.
Apparently, the two women used to run into each other at Starbucks, but Caitlyn eventually stopped seeing Gaga there and seemingly thought she might’ve moved. But based on Gaga’s reaction, she definitely didn’t move to a different area; she just seemed to be making an effort to avoid Caitlyn. Her excuse is everything, really.
Caitlyn asked Gaga if she was still spending time in Malibu.
The singer and former Olympian ran into each other on the red carpet of Elton John’s Academy Awards viewing party back in 2022. Gaga did not seem thrilled to see Caitlyn, and the apparent snub went viral. At the time, Caitlyn asked Gaga, “Are you spending time around Malibu anymore?” Gaga confirmed that she was, indeed, still spending time in Malibu, which didn’t make much sense to Caitlyn because she hadn’t seen her around.
“I haven’t seen you at the Starbucks in a while!” Caitlyn told her. Gaga looked…uncomfortable, and then shared her iconic excuse: “I’ve… switched baristas.” She then turned away, and Caitlyn told her that it was good seeing her. Perhaps the feeling wasn’t mutual, though, given that Gaga seemed to be suggesting she switched coffee shops to avoid running into Caitlyn. Ouch.

At this point, the clip is four years old, and yet, people still found it funny when it started making the rounds on social media again this month. “The way she said it so calmly is what kills me,” one person wrote on X.
In the eyes of many, Gaga made her feelings about Caitlyn very clear without actually saying anything overtly rude. “Oooh that told us everything we need to know,” someone else commented. And a third person said, “She straight up dropped the cleanest diss ever recorded and floated away like nothing happened.”
However, as Paper magazine pointed out at the time, Caitlyn didn’t seem particularly bothered by this. Shortly after that interaction, she took to social media to call Lady Gaga “an absolute class act.” But people commented to remind her that Gaga “already switched baristas.”
