Elisabeth Hasselbeck Sparks Gasps From ‘The View’ Audience During Heated Debate

As far as her time on The View goes, Elisabeth Hasselbeck has never been one to shy away from the tough topics, and that part of her personality really landed her in hot water this week. On Wednesday morning’s episode of the show, Elisabeth made a few truly controversial statements during a discussion about ICE‘s recent actions in the US, and some of them even left the audience gasping.

It all started when Whoopi Goldberg opened up a discussion about Kristi Noem.

This week, Kristi, the Homeland Security Secretary, has been testifying before the Senate about ICE’s approach to controlling immigration in the US. Using that as a jumping off point for a discussion, Joy Behar said that it was “good to see Republicans going after her,” but when it was Elisabeth’s turn to talk, the situation quickly went downhill.

“Listen, I love dogs. I love people. I think all lives matter — to God — and we’re in uncommon times, so we need to have uncommon sense about things like this,” she said.

Elisabeth showed support for Kristi’s approach to keeping American borders secure.

And in the process, she used the audience of their show as part of her example.

“We need a strong border, especially now with our current global situation,” she said. “I believe that you may say you don’t want border control and you’re against ICE, but I actually don’t believe you in your daily lives. How many people in the audience here had to go through security to get here?”

Elisabeth continued, “This is an authorized audience. They had to go through security to get through the border to get right here to just hear us talk. We need strong borders more than ever right now.”

She was willing to concede that the killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good were murders at the hands of ICE agents, but that’s as far as she would go.

Even COVID-era masks came up in the debate.

When fellow host Sara Haines pointed out that in a situation where “a man comes at me with a mask and a gun,” referring to ICE agents, her body would immediately go into fight mode, Elisabeth claimed that actually, the Democrats are the “party of masks” and that citizens were “forced” to wear them during the pandemic.

Her cohosts still didn’t back down, though, including Joy, who said, “A public health crisis is a little bit different.”
