Abusive Florida Couple Allegedly Restricted 6-Year-Old Girl’s Food To Keep Her From Getting Fat

When a little girl arrived at Enterprise Elementary School in Daytona Beach, Florida, with bruises on her face, staff began asking questions. At first, the child told school staff that she had fallen, but as time passed, she claimed a man named Jeffrey Morales had slapped her as a punishment. The story prompted school staff to contact the Florida Department of Children and Families, which coordinated with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office to arrest Morales. A deputy’s body cam recorded the arrest, and you won’t believe what concerned Morales the most about going to jail. Here’s a hint: It wasn’t the child.

The little girl reportedly had multiple injuries.

The 6-year-old girl arrived at school on April 16, 2026, after two consecutive absences, According to court documents obtained by WESH. Staff noticed the child had marks on her face. At first, she told officials she had fallen but later said Morales and her mother, Melissa Husk, had instructed her not to tell the truth about what happened. After a bit of time, the child shared a horrific story. She alleged Morales hit her “a total of 17 times” as punishment for “being bad.”

Deputies noted that the child did not know when she last bathed, ate, or brushed her teeth. She claimed Morales and Husk only allowed her to have breakfast on Tuesdays because they didn’t want her to get “fat.” Per WESH, DCF took custody of the child, and police arrested both Morales and Husk in connection with the alleged abuse.

Body cam footage shows Morales being arrested at school.

Deputies explained to Morales that they were arresting him for allegations of felony child abuse. He asked no questions about the child, if she was OK, or what would happen to her. Morales did make sure to ask about his car and how Husk would be able to get the vehicle. When police told him they would tow his car, all he could say was, “Are you serious? We can’t afford that.”

Sir, be so for real right now.

The allegations against Morales and Husk have infuriated the community.

Police pinned the actual abuse on Morales, but Husk apparently sat by and did nothing to help her little girl.

“This makes me happy. When I was in school no one cared about the visible abuse,” someone commented on the post. “One time I went to school with a super bruised neck all around and asked for help but nothing happened until I ran away as a teen.”

Others worried about the child’s well-being following Morales and Husk’s arrests.

“The sad part is the little girl is going to feel like she is being punished, if they put her in foster care with strangers. Hopefully there’s a nice relative who will take her,” one person wrote. “I prayed this little girl stays safe forever and it’s loved and cared for.”

The sweet little girl thanked the arresting deputies.

The child drew a picture for Sergeant Brittany Crofutt that touched the deputy’s heart. She told the little girl she’d keep it in her car.

“Thank you to all officers handling this situation. I wish our officers worked as you do,” someone commented. “The picture the girl drew says it all. Drawn from her heart.”

When Crofutt arrested Husk, she made a very blunt statement: “You’re her mom and you’re supposed to protect her,” Crofutt said. “You failed.”

Morales faces a child abuse charge, and Husk faces a charge of child neglect.

When this is all said and done, maybe they can get their car back. But we hope they never see that child again.
