What to Know
At a recent Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority event at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, Zahara Jolie gave a speech about her mom, Angelina Jolie, that quickly started making the rounds. The 21-year-old called her mom a “superhero” and a role model, speaking openly about how she was raised and the bond she shares with all of her siblings. But the reason everyone is talking about this isn’t because of what she said, it’s because of what she didn’t say about her adoptive father, Brad Pitt
In a speech for a sorority event, Zahara Jolie called her mom a “superhero.”
At a recent Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority event at Spelman College, Angelina Jolie’s daughter, Zahara, gave a speech that detailed the incredibly special bond between mothers and daughters. Shared in a video on X, it’s difficult not to tear up at the 21-year-old’s words, especially when you catch a glimpse of Angelina clearly being moved.
At the beginning of her speech, Zahara shared that she’s studying psychology with a minor in educational studies with the hopes of a career in youth mentorship — sound at all familiar? Zahara admitted that she found it “challenging to find the words” when thinking about how to describe the relationship she shares with her mom because it’s “a unique, almost kindred relationship that can be hard to put into words.”
She spoke about being adopted at just six months old and “given some of the most special and loving people as [her] siblings” along “with a mom who raised [them] on the value of helping others, being kind and always striving for growth as people.”
Ultimately, Zahara shared that she feels so lucky to have Angelina as her mother. “I am grateful to have had a role model show me what it looks like to be a decent human being,” she said.
Most in the comments section are truly touched by Zahara’s words about her mom.

Most people in the comments section on X were enamored with how Zahara spoke of her very famous mother. One individual spoke about the skills it takes to be able to get up in front of a crowd like that and speak. “I love how eloquent and smart she is. Also, Angelina getting emotional at the end,” they wrote.
Another person in the comments couldn’t help but quote a part of Zahara’s impactful speech. They shared, “‘Strong woman because a strong woman raised me.’ I love it!!”
Even though Zahara purposefully stated at the beginning of her speech that she was there to discuss the value in the relationship between a mother and daughter, there were some comments about how there was no mention of her adoptive father, Brad Pitt.
One person wrote, “Your dad raised you too, Zahara. It is sad that you ignore him.” Yikes. This person has zero idea what their current relationship is like or if they even have one. Another person in the comments shared their perspective on the situation by stating, “You would think if he’s ever a good father she and her siblings acknowledge him. Even Angelina still talking to the terrible father of hers.”
Is Zahara still close to Brad Pitt? Well, she dropped his last name a few years back.

If you haven’t heard about the alleged plane incident that involved Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and their children on a private flight, it might remind you why it appears that most of Angelina Jolie’s children have cut ties with their former dad, Brad Pitt.
As outlined in this Reddit thread, Brad was allegedly verbally and physically abusive towards Angelina on a private flight, and all of her kids were present for the brutal incident. Even though the public couldn’t possibly know all of the details of that day, someone in the comments shared their thoughts. “Her former lawyer even said in correspondence with his lawyer, that Brad Pitt is deeply afraid of people finding out what happened on that plane and the public perception of him if it came to light,” they wrote. It really is scary to think about what those kids witnessed that day.
Keeping that in mind, it does make sense that it was made public in 2023 that Zahara, who formerly went by Zahara Jolie-Pitt, dropped her adoptive father’s last name and proudly told her fellow Alpha Kappa Alpha members that her name is “Zahara Marley Jolie,” per Harper’s Bazaar.
So, just in case you were curious why speaking so fondly of her mother seems to come so naturally to Zahara, there are actually a number of reasons why her adoptive dad probably doesn’t make on the list of her favorite people!
