What to Know
Katy Perry is always up to something, isn’t she? In a move that no one predicted, Katy took to her Instagram to share a super funny and shocking reaction to learning the news that her ex, Josh Groban, is engaged to be married. Even though the pair dated well over a decade ago, they remained friendly over the years, so Katy’s decision to go slightly insane (in a completely fun way) on her Instagram over his announcement is really funny to watch. Though, we can’t help but wonder what her boyfriend, Justin Trudeau, thought of her recent social media share?
Katy Perry took to her Instagram to share a congratulatory post towards her ex, Josh Groban.
On Monday, May 11, Katy Perry turned to her little corner of the internet and fully decided to choose chaos. She posted an Instagram reel that showed a background image of singer Josh Groban’s engagement announcement to stage actress Natalie McQueen. All of a sudden, Katy appears on the screen looking fairly barefaced and in a white robe. With a seriously sad look on her face, she proceeds to pour herself a fizzy drink of something and performs a half-hearted “cheers” towards the camera.
As the reel continues, Katy drinks her fizzy drink and proceeds to spill the drink down the front of her while she fake cries. All of this is happening with Katy’s hit song, “The One That Got Away” playing in the background.
Funnily enough, this song is allegedly about Josh, who she briefly dated in 2009, per TMZ.
A lot of people online are fully welcoming this chaotic and silly side of Katy.
This Reddit thread is filled with comments from people who are loving what she posted. One person shared, “I, for one, welcome the chaos.” Another individual loved finding out about Katy and Josh’s previous relationship in this humorous way. “I’m ngl this is funny as hell to me. i had no idea. i love that for me,” they wrote.
Another person fondly recalled what social media used to be like when celebrities weren’t quite so buttoned up. They commented, “This is what Twitter used to be like in 2010… celebrity chaos instead of curated promotions. I welcome this insanity!” Another person hoped it was just a joke, but they couldn’t be 100% certain. “Okay that’s actually top tier humor lol If it’s not a joke….. that’s wild lmao,” they wrote.
Some are pretty turned off by commenting, even in a funny way, on an ex’s engagement.
As much as many people loved seeing this crazy side of Katy who’s willing to go there, there were some Redditors who weren’t quite convinced that it was an entirely appropriate move. One person put it super plainly by commenting, “yep this is exactly what i would do following an onslaught of credible sexual assault and harassment claims.” Another person in the replies said, “right lol she’s so out of touch.”
A few people in the Reddit comments also wondered how this whole thing might have made Josh’s fiancé feel. “No one is mentioning how this would make his fiancée feel. Like shutting up is always an option. Unfunny joke or not Katy is a classless shmuck,” they wrote. Another person shared similar thoughts. “She just can’t get enough attention for herself. She has to try to take their moment and make it about her in the media,” they wrote.
Another person just hopes that Katy’s video didn’t overshadow the couple’s big moment. They wrote, “As funny/silly as this is I’d be pissed if my engagement announcement was bombarded/overshadowed by news of my ex or my fiancé’s ex reacting to it.”
We just hope that Josh and Natalie were able to have a bit of a laugh about it and didn’t take things to heart.
