What to Know
In the time since Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi became first time parents last year, the music legend’s son has been receiving quite a bit of criticism from Millie’s fans. On more than one occasion, paparazzi photos have shown the couple out with their daughter while Millie is doing the bulk of the heavy lifting, leaving people to wonder why Jake isn’t being more helpful.
But now, Millie is finally addressing all of the hate he’s been getting, and it sounds like she doesn’t believe he’s in the wrong at all.
Millie pointed out that women aren’t “incapable.”

While appearing on Kylie Kelce‘s Not Gonna Lie podcast this week, Millie had to share something she wanted to be brutally honest about, per the show’s tradition. She chose to reference the backlash that Jake got when he was photographed empty handed while Millie carried the car seat and the diaper bag by herself as they were walking together.
“Hi, I’m Millie Bobbie Brown and I’m not gonna lie, when did women become incapable of holding their own bags, car seats and stuff?” Millie said on the podcast. “This stems from me holding all of my suitcases and bags and my kid and people are like, ‘Your husband doesn’t hold a single thing.’ Because I’m three miles ahead. I have been planning this all night.”
Millie continued, “We’re all about empowering girls and, ‘You got it’ and ‘You don’t need a man.’ But then when I’m like, ‘Ok, I can carry my own things,’ people are like, ‘Where’s your husband?’ I can also do it on my own. Nobody knows my husband. My husband is the most polite, sweet, will do anything for me. But he also knows I’m capable.”
She wasn’t alone in this line of thinking.
Kylie, who is married to former NFL player Jason Kelce, agreed that Millie had a point.
“The number of times that I have people come up to me and be like, ‘Do you need help with that bag?’ and I’m like, ‘Hey guys, I really appreciate it but if I needed help, I’d ask for it.’ The first person I’m asking is — you guessed it — my husband. Thank you,” she said, later adding, “I want there to be a degree of politeness and catering to your woman and whatever, but at the same time, don’t act like I’m broken or dainty.”
Some people deeply disagree.
In the comments on the clip from the podcast that was shared on TikTok, plenty of women acknowledged that they are capable, but why shouldn’t they welcome help?
“I’m not incapable of holding my own bags, opening my own doors, or any of the other things that my partner does for me. I’ve been doing it for literally my whole life,” one commenter wrote. “I quite enjoy someone doing that for me now. That does not lessen my Independence or confidence.”
Asking the men in our lives to help carry the extra weight in our daily routines — both figuratively and literally — shouldn’t be a big deal. Of course Millie’s capable, but so is Jake. He can carry that car seat next time!
