A Jersey Shore vacation took a terrifying turn on July 20, 2026, when a 2-year-old began to have difficulty breathing. Alexander T. Moles tried to rush the child to an area hospital for help. A 911 call led the North Wildwood Fire Department to a vehicle near 21st and New Jersey Avenues, where they found Moles and the child in desperate need of help.
Emergency responders administered two doses of Naloxone nasal spray, commonly known as NARCAN, to revive the child. When they got to Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional, the child’s blood tested positive for cocaine. Now Moles faces felony charges.
Moles and a woman were staying at a vacation rental with multiple children.
According to court documents obtained by 101.5, Moles and an unidentified female were staying at an Airbnb with multiple children. Around 11 a.m. on July 20, the woman reportedly left Moles in charge of the kids while she showered. When she got out of the shower, she apparently noticed the child looked sleepy and instructed Moles to take them to the hospital. On the way, the child apparently fell asleep, and Moles called the woman for help. She instructed him to call 911 immediately.
When Moles got to the hospital, he reportedly asked for an attorney.
Moles allegedly told police he thought the child took painkillers. When police began to question him at the hospital, he reportedly requested an attorney following a reading of his Miranda rights, per 101.5. Blood tests revealed the child tested positive for cocaine. Police obtained a search warrant and allegedly found a white powdery substance in bags labeled “tapentadol hydrochloride” in Mole’s vacation rental, 101.5 reported. Investigators also noted seeing plastic straws nearby.
Police arrested Moles on multiple charges.
Per a release from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, police arrested Moles on July 21 on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of prescription legend drugs. He was released on July 24 at a detention hearing.
People did not agree with the judge’s decision to release Moles.
“What is wrong with this world? This man’s an EMT firefighter and let’s a two-year-old and just his cocaine. The child almost died. The child is in the hospital yet this man is walking free what is wrong with this people in this g——n darn legal system?? Are you crazy? These cops don’t do anything around here. Well enforcement does not follow through with anything that man should be sitting in Cape May County jail. With No Bail!” Someone wrote on Facebook.
This person agreed, adding, “He should be facing attempted murder charges. If he was a dealer and his buyer OD he would be sitting in prison.”
“Prosecutor Sutherland advises persons convicted of a second degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison. A person convicted of a third degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison,” per the release.
