Amy Schumer Says Her Ozempic Side Effects Were so Bad She Couldn’t Play With Her Son

Amy Schumer is opening up about a weight loss drug that’s becoming quite popular these days. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live on June 8, Amy revealed that the Ozempic side effects were so bad that she couldn’t play with her son, Gene, when she tried the injections last year.

Amy revealed she took the drug a year ago.

Although it did help her lose weight as intended, it also made parts of her life a lot more difficult, especially when it came to hanging out with Gene, the 4-year-old son she shares with husband Chris Fischer.

“I was one of those people that felt so sick and couldn’t play with my son,” she said. “I was so skinny, and he’s throwing a ball at me and [I couldn’t].”

She ultimately gave up on Ozempic.

She decided that Ozempic was not “livable” for her, so she discontinued taking the drug. Of course, like all drugs, Ozempic (or semaglutide) affects everyone differently, and even though some people won’t experience any side effects, some people will have a tougher time with it, like Amy.

According to GoodRx, Ozempic side effects can commonly include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, while less common side effects are fatigue, stomach pain, and low blood sugar.

Amy hopes more celebrities will be transparent about their weight loss journeys.

Since Ozempic and similar drugs became popular, many celebrities have been rumored to take it … though not all of them have come clean, which is something that Amy says needs to change.

“Everyone and their mom is gonna try it. Everyone has been lying saying, ‘Oh, smaller portions,'” she said. “Like, shut the f— up. You are on Ozempic or one of those things, or you got work done. Just stop.”

She wants fellow celebrities to 'be real with the people.'

“When I got lipo, I said I got lipo,” she said.

This is true — Amy even shared an Instagram post that casually revealed she’d undergone the procedure and thanked her doctor.

“I feel good. Finally. It’s been a journey thanks for helping me get my strength back @seckinmd (endo) @jordanternermd (lipo) never thought I would do anything but talk to me after your uterus doesn’t contract for 2.5 years and you turn 40,” she wrote in the caption of the post that she shared in January 2022.

All drugs won't work for everyone.

Good for Amy for coming clean about trying out Ozempic — and for being truthful about how the experience didn’t work out for her. It’s hard enough to keep up with our kids without side effects from a medication we’re taking slowing us down even more, and we’re sure Gene appreciates having his mama back!
