Armie Hammer Reveals He’s ‘Really Grateful’ for Cannibalism Allegations

Armie Hammer is finally speaking out about the 2021 allegations of cannibalism that quickly blew up his acting career. At the time of the accusations, Armie was riding a wave of film successes, including The Social Network and Call Me By Your Name. But then, several of his ex-girlfriends accused him of some truly shocking and disturbing things, including sexual assault, and people quickly turned on the actor.

The allegations effectively caused Armie to go into hiding for the last few years. Now that some of the dust has settled from the whole ordeal, it looks like he is trying to revive his dead career, and speaking out about what happened to himself is the first step in staging a career comeback.

Armie is finally breaking his silence.

Armie recently appeared on the Painful Lessons podcast and directly addressed the claims accusing him of cannibalism.

“People called me a cannibal, and everyone believed them,” he said. “They’re like, ‘Yep, that guy ate people.’ Like, what? What are you talking about? Do you know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people! How am I going to be a cannibal?! It was bizarre.”

The allegations were pretty shocking.

In 2021, Effie Angelova accused Armie of “violently” raping her in 2017 when she was only 20 years old, and “mentally, emotionally and sexually” abusing her during their four year relationship. He denied her claims, saying he didn’t do anything legally wrong during their time together. Her claims came after other women had accused him of cannibalism, including ex-girlfriend Courtney Vucekovich, who told Page Six that Armie had told her “he wants to break my rib and barbecue and eat it” in January of that same year.

He's made his peace with what's happened.

Despite saying there were “discrepancies in whatever it was that people said,” Armie claims that he is “now at a place in my life where I’m grateful for every single bit of it.”

“I’m actually now at a place where I’m really grateful for it because where I was in my life before all of that stuff happened to me I didn’t feel good. I never felt satisfied, I never had enough, I never was in a place where I was happy with myself, where I had self-esteem,” he shared.

His marriage fell apart amid the accusations, too.

“I never knew how to give myself love. I never knew how to give myself self-validation but I had this job where I was able to get it from so many people that I never had to learn how to give it to myself,” he admitted.

As his career and public image were imploding, so was his marriage to Elizabeth Chambers, with whom he shares two kids.

Armie doesn't have much happening in his life right now.

Armie Hammer, who says that his acting career is “nowhere now,” admitted that he was suicidal as his life fell apart around him.

“There were a lot of times when I thought I can’t take this anymore. I was getting hate … so it just went right in … there was a time,” he admitted. “I was standing at the shore and I swam out really far and just laying there … a half-a–ed suicide attempt … But I thought I couldn’t do that to my kids.”

He said that now, he’s currently working on a screenplay to keep busy.
