Some celebrity parents we just connect with. They seem down-to-earth, and even though they have access to far more than we do, they never make us feel like that's true. Carrie Underwood is one of those celebs. She was just a regular person for the first part of her life – until she entered American Idol. She ended up winning the fourth season, and the music world is better for it. She's an incredible singer, and in 2015 she joined the mom club, when she and former NHL pro husband Mike Fisher welcomed their first child, Isaiah Michael Fisher.
The queen of pop-country music has been juggling career and home life since. She appeared to juggle her life with relative ease, even welcoming her second child, Jacob Bryan Fisher, in 2019. Through it all, she's kept it real with her fans. She doesn't try to live up to some uber-glamorous view of parenthood. Sharing she, too, can't get a handle on the never-ending laundry. She's opened up about the painful side of motherhood. For her, it was going through multiple miscarriages, something many parents can relate to.
Even though she's graced the stage of some of the most popular venues in the world, and her name is synonymous with fame, Carrie is still very real. She probably never has to worry about how to put food on her kids' table, but she, like many of us, come home after a long workday to fold all the laundry before bed.
We've rounded up Carrie Underwood's most raw and honest mom moments. Proving she's the ultimate mom-friend who is never pretending that it's a hard (but fun) journey for everyone.
Welcoming Her First Baby
Carrie Underwood welcomed her first baby with Mike in the wee hours of the morning. Carrie didn't wait to share a photo of her little one until she had crafted the "perfect" image. She had no hesitation about sharing her non-glam, but totally realistic photos. She's radiating from the inside, tired eyes and all, and it's a very real and sweet mom moment.
Bouncing Back
It's hard when we don't feel at home in our body, and Carrie wasn't afraid to keep things real as a new mom of two. "I'm going to be honest, 'bouncing back' after having Jacob has been much more difficult than after I had Isaiah, and I've been pretty hard on myself lately," she shared along with a promise to take things one day at a time.
Bring Your Kid to Work Day
For most kids, when they take part in "take your kids to work day," they join mom or dad at the office, and it's fun but not outstanding. For Carrie's kids, when it's time for them to join mom or dad at work, it's a whole new experience. "Just another day at the office!" Carrie wrote, adding, "I love my job."
Soccer Mom Feels, Just Like Us
For many parents, spending time at the soccer fields on the weekends is an every-summer kind of thing. Carrie does, too, and her kids are just as good at the sport as ours. "Isaiah scored two goals for his team…and one for the other team," she tweeted. "Hey, a goal's a goal!" Kids soccer is a whole new beast of its own.
Her Kids Treat Her Like Every Mom
Many of us have had the giggles that come with reading our kids' "about my mom" type of assignments where they guess our age or what we do for a living. It sounds like Carrie is an average everyday mama, too, and she's not too shy to share it with the world. "Soooo…apparently I'm 70, and I'm really good at doing the laundry," she tweeted.
Pumping Before a Big Award Show
Carrie shared a selfie with every strand of hair perfectly placed, and the lighting is just so right. She was about to head on the stage for the American Country Music Awards, looking flawless. Still, She wasn't afraid to share that she was also pumping because mama's got to work and baby's always hungry.
Workout With Boy in Tow
Carrie works out because it helps her feel more comfortable and at home in her body. We know it's a positive thing, but for many moms, trying to find time to carve it out while caring for kids is challenging. Carrie's honest photo shows that sometimes she has to bring her kids in on the workout, too. "My boys make workouts fun (and a bit less productive, but that's ok)."
Toddler Bullying?
Kids are magical and they have an interesting way of looking at the world since they're experiencing it all for the first time. It's because of this whole new world that they can also be pretty blunt. And sometimes it's hilarious while being painful. This raw moment Carrie shared with her millions of followers is something we can totally relate to. "Carefree Underwear" is a good one.
Public Reflections on Miscarriage
Carrie has a beautiful family with her husband and two sons. But she's also had a lot of pain through it all, too. She's been through multiple miscarriages, struggled through the feelings of being broken, and revealed how that impacted her relationship with God. "And I told him I needed something," she shared. "We needed to have a baby — or not ever. Because I couldn't keep going down that road anymore."
Her Honesty in 'Taboo' Topics
Carrie feels so much pressure, as we all do, but she's not afraid to show those feelings. When we vent, it's to our mom or best friends, but Carrie is so open to honest with her fans. She knows millions of people will hear what she has to say and really, her raw feelings and the way she expresses them openly does so much good. When she says she's struggling with mom guilt and breastfeeding, all of us feel less alone.
Frustration With Insomnia
When it comes to pregnant celebrities, they often make the whole nine months look flawless, easy, and like they're goddesses who didn't have a care in the world. Maybe it's because it has been for them, or they feel they cannot be honest for fear of getting judged. Carrie was very real when she shared the struggle she was having with insomnia while expecting.
Those Feelings of Disappointing People
Carrie is a huge star. Everyone knows who she is, but deep down, she's just Carrie. In an interview with Redbook, Carrie admitted she's often disappointing people because she's not who they think she should be. Off the stage, she says, "the rest of my life, I feel like I'm incredibly disappointing to people. Like if I run into someone at the grocery store, I really don't know what to say because I don't have a microphone in my hand or bling on." She added, "They expect me to be 'Carrie Underwood,' but I'm just Carrie. I'm sorry!"
The Relentless Laundry Haunts Her, Too
If we had to choose a house chore that exponentially grows with each child, laundry would be it. We have a hard time understanding how clothes so small can cause such a backlog in the chores, but it does. It's a struggle for parents to keep up, and there's something comforting knowing Carrie feels it, too. Laundry stops for no one, not even musicians.
Rookie Move Confessions
We have a lot of moments like this as parents, where everything that could go wrong feels like it does. Instead of giving each other snotty stares, moms should be able to jump in and help a fellow mom when disaster strikes. It happens to all of us — even Carrie. And she was saved by the mom community.
Leaving for Work & Missing Her Son
Working moms know it's hard to leave their baby behind, and most of us only have to leave for the office for 10 hours. For Carrie, she's not always able to take her little ones on the road with her. Instead of pretending she has it all together, that it doesn't bother her and she's figured it all out, she keeps it real. "What on earth am I going to do without him for all this time?!?!?!" she wondered.
