There are about 100 reasons why people should never ask a woman if she's pregnant, but tabloids and fans do it to celebrities all the time. Because they're so used to it, most of the time the A-listers ignore the rumors. But sometimes celebrities respond to pregnancy rumors to try to shut them down for good.
It's insensitive to ask someone if they're pregnant because if they're not, they're likely to feel shamed for how their body looks. They could also have just experienced a miscarriage or be unable to have children, and the question could compound their grief. But the idea of being kind and sensitive has never stopped a tabloid or an Instagram commenter before. And that's where these fire celebrity responses come in. Ask someone like Miley Cyrus or Hailey Bieber if they're pregnant and there's a big chance they'll totally call the BS out.
Taylor Swift
In 2008, singer Taylor Swift took to MySpace to deny pregnancy speculation. "I read a very creative rumor this morning saying I'm pregnant, which is the most IMPOSSIBLE thing on the planet. Take my word for it. Impossible," the then-19-year-old wrote. These days, Taylor is subject to just as much speculation, with fans recently claiming that she's secretly pregnant or secretly married or both.
Beyoncé's Mom
We could all use a publicist like Beyoncé's mom Tina Knowles. In 2010, she went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to shut down speculation that Bey was expecting. “With all the rumors, by now I should have five or six grandchildren," she joked. "I'm here to clear the rumors up. The truth is that it's not Beyoncé that's pregnant. It's me. I'm kidding y'all. I'm 56."
A year later, Bey announced that she was actually pregnant. She later gave birth to Blue Ivy in early 2012.
Kylie Jenner
Before she had Stormi in 2018, Kylie was the subject of pregnancy speculation as far back as 2015 — when she was just 18. "People been thinking I'm pregnant for 8 months now… CLEARLY I'm not pregnant!" she tweeted. It's no wonder that by the time she was actually pregnant, she retreated from the public eye to keep media speculation off her.
Jennifer Aniston
Next to the royals, perhaps no celebrity has had to deal with more pregnancy speculation than Jennifer Aniston. For years, tabloid headlines questioned her baby status on an almost weekly basis. It got to be so bad that the actress penned an essay about it for HuffPost in 2016. "For the record, I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up," she wrote. "I'm fed up with the sport-like scrutiny and body shaming that occurs daily under the guise of 'journalism.'"
Jessica Biel
In 2016, Jessica Biel shot down rumors that she and Justin Timberlake were expecting a second child. "I don't even know what to say about these things," she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "I feel like, I thought I was doing good with my yoga practice. I thought I was in the gym, but no, I have a gut apparently."
Since then, Jessica has given birth to her second child, but it didn't arrive until summer 2020.
Camila Cabello
Camila confused a lot of people a couple of years ago when she posted a photo of her holding her stomach and captioned it, "You’re still the only thing I did right." Right away, people assumed she was pregnant. She quickly clarified in all caps, "I'VE BEEN TOURING AMERICA EATING DELICIOUS FOODS LEAVE ME AND MY BELLY ALONE!!!!!!"
Miley Cyrus
Back when Miley was still with Liam Hemsworth, the Daily Mail falsely reported that they were expecting their first child. Miley took to Twitter to respond to the news, posting a photo of herself with an egg photoshopped over her stomach. "I'm not 'Egg-xpecting' but it's 'Egg-celent' to hear everyone is so 'Happy For Us,'" she wrote. "We're happy for us too! 'Egg-cited' for this next chapter in our lives…. Now, can everyone leave me alone and go back to staring at an egg."
Halsey
In 2019, the singer shot down baby speculation with a joke. "Still not pregnant. Still just allergic to gluten. Still love pancakes." She added, "Is it a boy? Is it a girl? It's pancakes." We love when celebs can have a laugh at what is said about them by the gossip mill. Rumors are always going to be there, might as well poke fun at them.
Lady Gaga
The singer responded to the gossip that she was pregnant by promoting her work instead. "Rumors I'm pregnant? Yeah, I'm pregnant with #LG6," she said, referencing her sixth album, which came out in early 2020. Wonder if she's pregnant with a seventh? We could use some new Lady Gaga music right about now.
Jennifer Garner
Jennifer already has three kids, but a fan wanted to know if she was expecting a fourth. "I am 48, have three healthy kids and am not — and never will be — pregnant," she answered on Instagram. "We can lay that pupper to rest. Have [I] gained the COVID 19? Possibly. But that is another story."
Joy-Anna Duggar
In October 2020, Joy-Anna Duggar responded to a comment that a Counting On fan had left on Instagram saying, "Oh God she’s not pregnant again…" Joy-Anna, who recently gave birth her daughter Evelyn answered simply, "I have a 9-week-old." The Duggar family is known for having babies in relatively quick succession, but not that quick.
Jessa Duggar
Joy-Anna's not the only Duggar who's been the subject of pregnancy rumors. A fan on Instagram straight-up asked Jessa if she was pregnant again. "Will you announce your 4th pregnancy soon? Noticed the bump," the comment said. The reality star answered, "There’s no baby behind the bump — only tacos. Thanks for asking."
Porsha Williams
When The Real Housewives of Atlanta star posted on Instagram that she'd recently been hospitalized, some people jumped to conclusions in the comments. Several people questioned if Porsha was expecting and if perhaps that was tied to the hospitalization. "Ma'am, I am not pregnant," the reality star responded to one person. She didn't elaborate on what her health issues were that caused the trip to the hospital, but that's fine. It's her business, and no, it has nothing to do with a bun in the oven.
Kelsea Ballerini
Someone asked the country singer on Twitter if she was expecting, and Kelsea quickly shut them down. "I'm sure you mean well, but it's incredibly insensitive to ask or assume if another woman is pregnant," she said. "I'm not, by the way. Just carrying around my organs. But if I were, I'd want to share that in my own time when I felt ready. Let's not judge bloat levels on the internet."
Hailey Bieber
Justin Bieber's wife, Hailey, wants people to focus on important issues rather than baseless rumors. In November 2020, she wrote in an Instagram story, "I'm not pregnant. So please stop writing false stories from your 'sources' and focus on what's important aka the election." Tell 'em, girl!
