Gwyneth Paltrow’s Latest Food Hack Is Dividing the Internet for All the Wrong Reasons

Only Gwyneth Paltrow could come up with some wild food substitute and make us all collectively think, “girl, it is too early for this.” No matter what time it is right now, it’s too early for some of the Goop founder’s antics when it comes to her wellness brand. First, it was Goop, her brand that includes clean beauty products and health-conscious food too. Now, it’s her dairy substitute. Which is, per a video on TikTok from the Today show, nothing that has the consistency, flavor, or even color of dairy products.

But go off sis, because Paltrow says in the clip that her trick to adding a dairy alternative to a dish works for her. This is the same woman who has discussed eating broth for lunch and sweetening her oatmeal. Does that mean she should be trusted when it comes to her specific dairy alternative for turkey meatballs? No, no it does not.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s dairy alternative doesn’t even seem like it would be anywhere close to the real thing.

Gwyneth Paltrow stopped by TODAY to share her recipe for turkey meatballs, and shared a unique substitute to make it dairy free.

In the clip from the Today show, Paltrow is making turkey meatballs with the hosts. She then explains that if someone wants to copy the recipe with something dairy-free in place of Parmesan cheese, they can use, wait for it, arugula. Yes, arugula lettuce. According to Paltrow, it adds some texture and flavor.

Look, I can get behind adding vegetables to dishes like this to sort of sneak in some extra nutrients. But in place of cheese? That does not track, and no one on TikTok was here for this Goop-led nonsense. There have to be a handful of other dairy-free alternatives for this particular dish. But for the celebrity who had made another career for herself, this time out of clean eating, clean beauty products, and clean everything, arugula is apparently the way to go.

“Is she my Instacart shopper?” Someone commented on TikTok.

Another user joked, “Ah yes, arugula is so known for its creamy, dairy-like texture and flavor.”

Then, a chef joined the chat. They wrote, “Now Gwenie I’m a chef and I’m confused. How in the hell is that an equal even ingredient swap? And what dairy are you even putting in meatballs?? And don’t say cheese bc then arugula just isn’t the move.”

Her other diet reveals had people asking questions too.

While promoting Goop in different ways for different products and services over the years, Paltrow has also shared details of her diet with the world. And when she spoke often of following a strict paleo diet and intermittent fasting, she had people wondering what kind of life that is. OK, that might be a bit dramatic. But it does seem a little strange to those who aren’t used to the kidneys of diets that Paltrow has admitted to.

Per Delish, Paltrow once admitted to using orange juice to sweeten her overnight oats instead of honey or sugar. Paltrow also admitted to drinking coffee and having bone broth for other meals. And then there was the raw goat milk cleanse that she went on. Compared to all of that, the arugula as a dairy substitute could be a lot worse.

Some people wonder if she has had disordered eating.

Because of what Paltrow has said over the years about her diet and food, some have speculated that she has struggled with disordered eating. She hasn’t said this, but it hasn’t stopped people from speculating. But on a Reddit post about the topic, users also commended Paltrow for trying to develop a healthy relationship with food when she admitted to incorporating some pasta into her diet for the first time in years.

“I am not a fan of Goop or Gwyneth’s pushing of pseudoscience, but the way she has been eating for years sounds disorderly, and if she is just starting to pull herself out of it, that’s a good thing,” someone wrote on the post. “No one should feel like they went to confession just by admitting they eat a little pasta or bread. That is so sad.”
