Harry & Meghan Haven’t Been Invited to the King’s Coronation & It Might Be William’s Fault

It's no secret that some family issues are happening with the royal family. We've seen it play out in headlines and interviews, the most recent string being the release of Prince Harry's book Spare and the press tour that went along with it. But, of course, there's been a lot of changes in the family too, starting with the death of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles becoming King Charles.

Now, as plans are underway for the coronation of King Charles, it seems the family drama is getting in the way.

It's already been announced that the coronation of King Charles III will take place on May 6. Even though that's still a few months away, the planning is already well begun because it will be a massive event. Guest lists are being finalized, and plans are being made.

But a palace insider says Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have yet to be invited.

And it's not clear if they will be.

According to People, there's been no movement toward reconciliation, and that's probably why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have yet to be invited to the coronation.

A palace insider told the news outlet that the invitation to attend will come. Still, a source close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said that "invitation has yet to be extended, and there has been no movement toward reconciliation."

There's a chance an invitation won't ever come, and Prince William might have something to do with that.

Earlier this month, another royal insider told People that Prince William is "most upset" by the allegations Prince Harry made in his memoir, Spare.

"William is the one who is most upset and needs time to calm down," the source said. "He has been painted as hotheaded and unsympathetic. But I don't think he will back down — it's whether they can move beyond it and accept that they view things differently."

It does sound, however, as if Charles is hopeful Harry will attend.

The source told People that King Charles is eager for things to "calm down" between his kids so they can attend the event.

"It is such a momentous occasion for Charles, and he would want his son to be at the coronation to witness it," the source said. "He would like to have Harry back in the family. If they don't sort it out, it will always be part of the King's reign and how he has left his family disjointed."

It sounds like he wants Harry to go because it'll look bad if he isn't there.

The source explained, "He has had a reputation as a distant parent, and it would be awful for him for that to continue."

Prince Harry and Meghan haven't said anything about attending the coronation, but during an interview last month, Harry didn't dismiss the idea of going.

"There's a lot that can happen between now and then. But, you know, the door is always open," he said. "The ball is in their court. There's a lot to be discussed, and I really hope that they are willing to sit down and talk about it."

It probably doesn't help that King Charles' coronation is scheduled for the same day Harry and Meghan's son, Archie, has a birthday.

Time will tell.
