Janelle Brown Says Late Son Garrison’s Birthday Is ‘Such a Weird Day’ for Her

In March 2024, Janelle and Kody Brown’s son Garrison died by suicide at age 25. This year, on what would’ve been Garrison’s 27th birthday, Janelle Brown took to social media to remember her late son and open up about her experience with grief. For the Sister Wives star, April 10 — Garrison’s birthday — is understandably “such a weird day.”

When she looks back at photos of her son, he still seems ‘so alive.’

On Instagram, Janelle shared a reel that featured several different photos and videos of Garrison. She explained that she chose to share photos and videos from the county fair because they show who her son was “so well.”

In her post, Janelle said that “grief is so strange.”

“You seem so alive in the millions of photos I have,” she wrote, addressing Garrison. “I sometimes forget I wont see you again – and then – I remember.”

She concluded her heartfelt post with, “Till we meet again sweetheart 🩷.”

Garrison’s brother Hunter also honored him on his birthday.

Garrison’s 28-year-old brother Hunter shared several photos of Garrison along with a Dr. Suess quote on Instagram: “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”

Along with the quote, Hunter wrote, “Remember to spend the time you have with those you love! Happy Birthday to my Boi! Love you, dude!”

Janelle also commented on Hunter’s post, writing, “I’m so glad we have all the pictures ❤️.”

Garrison’s mom and siblings also paid tribute to him a year after his death.

On March 5, 2025, a year after Garrison’s death, Janelle urged her followers to “consider making a donation to your local animal shelter, rescue, or humane society” because “this cause was close to Garrison’s heart.” She shared a photo of Garrison holding a cat and revealed that he had adopted three cats from shelters.

“I stay busy but in EVERY quiet moment you are first and foremost in my thoughts,” she wrote at the time. “It’s been a year baby. We miss you so much. I miss you so much.”

Janelle previously revealed that her son’s death came as a shock to the family.

Prior to his death, Janelle didn’t notice any obvious warning signs of suicide. She previously told People that her family “had no idea that he was in that place” because he “didn’t ever express any kind of extreme sad feelings” and was generally “very funny, very upbeat.”

She added that there seemed to be “no indication at all,” as her son was in contact with his family and “excited” about his career. Not long before his death, he had adopted a cat.

Janelle added that it’s important to talk about mental health and reduce stigma, especially for young men whose mental health challenges often go untreated. “We should be speaking more, especially about mental health for men, and that there’s no shame in getting help and seeking help,” she said. “We just had no idea. This was such a shock to us.”
