Jonathan Owens Says He & Simone Biles Won’t ‘Force’ Future Kids To Play Sports

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens hope to have kids someday, but their kids won't necessarily be athletes. Of course, children who have two talented athletes as parents might feel some level of pressure to pursue sports themselves, but in an interview with People, Jonathan revealed that he doesn't want to put pressure on his future children. The 29-year-old National Football league player said he and Simone want to have kids "for sure" in the future, but whether their future children pursue sports is entirely up to them.

Simone and Jonathan have talked about having kids.

Even though Simone and Jonathan don't plan on having kids in the immediate future, it is a topic they've discussed before. The Olympic gymnast, 27, told Today that she and her husband "always talk about kids."

"He would have had them like, yesterday, if he could have," she told the news outlet. Though having kids is "definitely in (their) future," they have other things to focus on right now.

"Obviously we both have goals that we want to achieve before we start a family," Simone, the most decorated gymnast in history, told the news outlet.

Jonathan doesn't want to force their kids to participate in sports.

When speaking to People about starting a family, Jonathan said their future kids will only play sports if they want to. "If that's what they want to do, I'm not going to try to force anything on them," he said.

He still plans to share his stories with them.

Although he won't push his kids to play sports, Jonathan acknowledged that he and Simone will both have interesting stories to share with their future kids. "Obviously they're going to know what their parents did, so that'll be just something cool for them to look at and for us to be able to relive those stories and memories with them," he told People.

He added that Simone loves taking photos, so "we'll have stuff framed up for them."

Regardless of what the kids choose, their parents will support them.

Jonathan said he's committed to supporting his kids whether or not they choose to play sports. "Honestly, whatever they want to do, I'll just support them a hundred percent."

Although their future kids might want to follow in their footsteps, Jonathan just hopes they don't feel obligated to pursue sports.

"I don't want to force 'em and make it feel like you have to do this because we did," he told People.

Although she wants to be a mom eventually, Simone isn't sure about her plans for the future.

Simone told Today that she sees herself being a mom in the future, but at this point in her life, she's not exactly sure what's next. When asked during a press conference about competing in the Summer Games in Los Angeles in 2028, Simone said, "Never say never. Next Olympics are at home. So you just never know."

She added, with a lugh, "I am getting really old."

She wants to enjoy the moment.

Simone took to X on August 4 to share something that's been bothering her. "you guys really gotta stop asking athletes what’s next after they win a medal at the Olympics," she tweeted. "let us soak up the moment we’ve worked our whole lives for."
