Kate Gosselin Says Wanting To Be a ‘Cool Mom’ Motivated Her To Do ‘Intense’ Boot Camp Show

When it comes to impressing her kids, it seems Kate Gosselin will do almost anything. The famous mother of eight recently confessed that she signed up for a grueling new boot camp reality show in an effort to win over some of her children. Hopefully it paid off, because it sounds like her time on the series was quite intense.

Kate opened up about her motivations for joining the show while chatting with People.

The Jon & Kate Plus 8 star explained her decision to take on the massive challenge of joining Fox's Special Forces: World's Toughest Test, which premiered on Wednesday night.

"It was intense," she said. "I knew I was crazy going into it, but as afraid of it as I was — because I kept trying to be like, 'No, no, I can't do that!' — then I'd find myself awake at night being like, 'But what if I could?'"

She had a pretty good reason for signing on.

Most parents will do anything for their kids, and Kate is no exception.

"I really secretly wanted cool mom points, especially from my boys," she admitted. "I mean, obviously if I was in my 20s, I'd have a better chance of whipping it. But I knew, given my age, I mean let's be real, how far could I go? I knew my mental determination could take me [far], but my physical status … I'm not running marathons currently."

We totally get that!

Contestants are faced with some pretty scary challenges as part of the series.

Those challenges include leaping out of a helicopter into open water.

Yikes!

"I really did want to test my mental ability," Kate continued. "I mean, I had six babies, and that was pure mental, not giving up. I was on bed rest for 24 weeks total and sitting in the hospital for 10 weeks. Every day I [said] out loud to myself, 'You cannot give up.' It was a mental and physical game."

Kate said she drew heavily on her time in the hospital with her sextuplets for inspiration.

She obviously had a lot of time alone with her thoughts while she was pregnant with sextuplets Hannah, Collin, Alexis, Aaden, Joel, and Leah, and she got really good at digging deep within herself to find some motivation.

"That's when I learned how you can talk yourself in or out of anything," she explained to People. "Your brain is so much more powerful than we give it credit for."

We'll have to wait to find out if Kate has earned those 'cool points.'

Kate's struggle has only just begun as she competes alongside fellow celebs, including Jamie Lynn Spears, Kenya Moore, and Mel B for a shot at the top slot. Special Forces: World's Toughest Test airs Wednesday nights on Fox.

We're pulling for you, Kate. Hopefully you can make your kids proud!
