Technically, Meghan Markle already goes by a nickname publicly, as her given name is Rachel Meghan Markle. However, during her time as a working royal, King Charles reportedly had another nickname for the Duchess of Sussex. It’s not unusual for members of the royal family to use endearing nicknames for each other in private. In 2017, Kate Middleton revealed that Prince Harry used to call her “Cath.” Meanwhile, Queen Camilla has been said to call King Charles “Fred.” Compared to these monikers, King Charles’ nickname for Meghan is a bit less conventional.

King Charles chose a nickname inspired by Meghan’s personality.
Instead of simply shortening her name, King Charles reportedly chose Meghan’s nickname because of how “tough” she is. According to the Daily Mail, King Charles called Meghan “Tungsten” while she was still a working royal. Tungsten is a heavy metal with a high melting point.
At the time, he meant it as a compliment.
While being compared to a type of metal might not sound like the most flattering comparison in the world, a palace source previously told the Daily Mail that Charles admired Meghan’s “tough” and “unbending” personality. In 2018, a royal insider said Charles “admires Meghan for her strength and the backbone she gives Harry.”

Charles reportedly thought Prince Harry needed someone like Meghan in his life.
The royal insider added that because Harry “can be a bit of a softy,” Meghan added something positive to his life. Harry “needs a tungsten-type figure in his life,” the source said at the time.
Though the nickname was originally “a term of endearment,” it’s unclear whether King Charles feels the same way about Meghan’s personality now that she and Prince Harry have stepped away from royal duties and left the United Kingdom.
Now, King Charles ‘hardly knows’ Harry and Meghan’s children.
Harry and Meghan’s departure has made it challenging for Charles to be involved in his grandchildren’s lives. Royal expert Jennie Bond recently told the Mirror that Charles “hardly knows” Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Because Harry and Meghan moved to the United States with their kids, Charles hasn’t had many opportunities to see his grandchildren in person. “It must remain a great sadness to the king to be so distant from his two US-based grandchildren,” Jennie told the publication.
Another alleged nickname of Meghan’s recently came to light.
Former Spotify employees who worked with Meghan for her Archetypes podcast also reportedly had a nickname for the Duchess of Sussex, but it wasn’t an endearing one. UK royal correspondent Neil Sean alleged that some Spotify employees dubbed Meghan “Eva.” “Ex-staff members told me they decided to christen her ‘Eva’ and this was used as a warning signal to let people know that she was either arriving or on the warpath,” Neil said.
Although some employees who worked with Meghan on her podcast described it as an “awful” experience, per Vanity Fair, producer Jane Marie said Meghan seemed like “a lovely, genuine person.”
