Martha Stewart Responds to Ina Garten’s Explanation of Why the Former Friends Had a Falling Out

These famous friends haven’t been close for years, but it sounds like they each have very different ideas of how the end of their friendship truly went down. While appearing on Watch What Happens Live this week, Martha Stewart opened up about her falling out with Ina Garten after Ina had mentioned it in her new memoir. But it sounds like Martha’s side of the story is very different from the one Ina has shared so far.

Martha was hanging out with her pal Snoop Dogg on the show.

After host Andy Cohen asked her if she had read Ina’s new memoir, Be Ready When the Luck Happens, Martha admitted that she’d read “parts” of her former friend’s book.

Noting that Martha had been mentioned, Andy asked her how she felt about it, to which she responded, “She can write whatever she wants.”

In the book, Ina claimed she and Martha stopped being friends when they lived far apart.

Ina wrote that when she moved to her farm in Connecticut and Martha was living in Bedford, New York, they just weren’t as close as they once were – but according to Martha, that’s not what actually went down.

“That’s not true,” she said. Snoop Dogg was quick to back her up, adding, “Martha don’t fall out with people.”

According to Martha, there was a very different reason things changed between the friends.

According to Martha, Ina stopped talking to her “after I went to jail.”

After Martha was convicted on fraud charges, she spent five months behind bars, from October 2004 to March 2005. Apparently, this time in Martha’s life is what pushed Ina to reevaluate their friendship.

Snoop made it clear that now he has Martha's back.

“See, that’s when I stepped in,” he said, eliciting plenty of laughter and applause from the audience.

“When one friend goes out the door, another friend comes in the door!” Andy proclaimed.

Martha doesn't expect she'll ever be friends with Ina again.

At the premiere of her documentary this week, Martha told People that she doesn’t see herself and Ina becoming friends again in the future.

“No, she’s into her own thing. That’s OK,” she said.

Martha’s doing her own thing, too — and with a friend as loyal as Snoop in her life, what more does she need?
