Critics Think Prince Archie’s Pricey Pajamas Prove Meghan Markle Isn’t a ‘Relatable’ Mom

With the recent release of her Netflix show, As Ever products, and podcast, Meghan Markle has faced lots of criticism for not being considered relatable. The Duchess of Sussex’s critics continued to make these kinds of comments in response to her Mother’s Day post — especially after finding out how much Prince Archie’s pajamas cost.

On Mother’s Day, Meghan shared a photo featuring Archie and Lilibet.

In what appeared to be a pretty standard Mother’s Day post, Meghan wrote about the joys of being a mom. The photo she chose to share showed her kids, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 3, attempting to “climb ‘mama mountain,'” as Meghan described it.

“Happy Mother’s Day! Cheers to juggling it all with joy!” Meghan wrote. “And to these two gems – who still attempt to climb ‘mama mountain’, smother me with kisses, and make every day the most memorable adventure….being your mom is the greatest privilege of my life ❤️ I, too, ‘love you more than all the stars in all the sky, all the raindrops, and all the salt on all the french fries in all the world.'”

But critics accused her of making Mother’s Day about herself.

Sure, Meghan is a mom. But some critics wondered why she wrote about her own experience with motherhood instead of posting about her own mother. One critic on X called Meghan’s Mother’s Day post “very telling.”

“Leave it to #MeghanMarkle to make Mothers Day all about her and not mention her own mother,” they wrote. “Not a Happy Mothers Day to Doria, not a photo, not even a passing reference. Instead she congratulated herself on how amazing she is and how much her kids worship her.”

A second critic expressed a similar view on Reddit, writing, “I guess she didn’t feel the need to mention her own mother?” Another person echoed this with, “Who the heck congratulates themselves on Mother’s Day? It’s a day for recognizing mothers, not yourself.”

They also claimed that Meghan’s portrayal of motherhood was not relatable.

Some people doubted that Meghan is truly “juggling it all.”

One naysayer on Reddit wrote: “Juggling it all with joy? Like wtf? No Megs, most of us are juggling bcuz we have to. We don’t find joy in juggling.”

Another person commented: “She loves celebrating herself! Juggling it all… with nannies and staff – wow!”

People also took issue with the price of her kids’ pajamas.

According to Hello!, Archie appeared to be wearing pajamas from a brand called La Ligne NY in the photo Meghan shared. The publication reported that they’re limited edition “Navy/white Enfant Bonne Nuit Pajamas” and they’re no longer available, but when they were available, they cost about $80.

While some people argued that the pajamas were a normal price for Meghan, considering the kind of bank account she must be working with, others pointed out that kids often need new clothes at Archie’s age.

“My grandson is Archie’s age,” one person wrote. “He’s growing so fast he needs a size up in pants and shirts every 6-8 weeks at minimum. Spending so much on a child’s night wear is not relatable or resourceful for most families, especially given the ongoing cost of living crisis.”

Besides, many kids ruin their clothes quickly — especially if they’re white like these PJs, which led one parent to call them “impractical.”

“I never put my children in white pajamas. If those children get to play like regular kids, they won‘t stay white long! Limited edition or not, they are impractical,” they said.

But not all the comments were negative.

Though Meghan seemed to garner a lot of hate over a simple Mother’s Day post, some fans had positive things to say about the Duchess of Sussex.

“I’m glad she’s got kids,” one fan wrote. “Harry loves her no doubt but the love of a child strengthens you in a way no one else can.”
