Riley Keough Says Mom Lisa Marie Presley Grounded Her for 3 Months After She Was Arrested as a Teenager

Lisa Marie Presley may have gone through her own rebellious phase as a teenager – you know, as the daughter of Elvis Presley and all that came with it – but that doesn’t mean she wanted the same for her children. During her appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast this week, Riley Keough shared how Lisa Marie reacted to her teenage arrest, and it sounds like her mom definitely wasn’t going to let it slide.

Riley opened up to host Alex Cooper about her teenage rebellion.

Like many teenagers, younger Riley admitted that she “would sneak out and hang out with people I shouldn’t,” but when she got arrested, she didn’t even think she was breaking the law. Not only did Riley say this is something she never talks about, but she also admitted she’s never actually seen her mugshot.

Her arrest was for 'breaking and entering.'

“I went to a party at my friend’s house but I didn’t know that it wasn’t my friend’s house, it was a house for sale,” she explained on the podcast. “The police came and most people got away, and then about 10 of us got arrested.”

Understandably, Lisa Marie was “p—ed” when she got that phone call.

Lisa Marie told her, 'This is on you, girl.'

To make matters worse, her mom wasn’t even in town the night Riley got arrested.

“She was in Las Vegas, and I had to call her and tell her to come back from Vegas and pick me up in prison,” Riley said. “I’ve never told anyone this! She’s like, ‘I can’t get there.’ So she sent my aunt to come get me.”

The arrest never made the papers, but that was sheer luck: Lisa Marie didn’t try to hide it.

And of course, Riley was grounded.

“Oh yeah. I was grounded for like three months, and I was grounded on my 16th or 15th birthday or something,” she added.

That must have been a bummer, but it sounds like Riley definitely learned her lesson – especially if she still doesn’t like to bring up her arrest so many years after it happened.

Despite her punishment, Riley still sees Lisa Marie as an 'amazing parent.'

But as she said on the podcast, she doesn’t plan to parent her 2-year-old daughter, Tupelo, exactly like her mom parented her. Although she knew Lisa Marie wanted her kids to have “amazing experiences” the way Elvis made sure she did during her childhood, ultimately, Riley said that “when you’re used to so much, it’s hard to find joy in simple things.”

“I really want my children to be able to find joy and just playing in the backyard and doing normal kid stuff and not need like elephants and circus and all these things all the time,” she said. “So that’s probably what I would do differently. But I think her intention was really wanting to give everything she could to her kids.”
